I liked the information throughout on Rossetti's life. It is the most thorough book out on the market about Dante Gabriel Rossetti. She uses actual letters from his correspondence with family, friends, and patrons to backup her analysis. She gives place names where he lived or visited at various times, and differentiates the phases of his life from a youngster growing up with an Italian ex-patriot and devotional mother and siblings to a temperamental perfectionist in later years whose narcissism brings him to question himself. A very profound look at a poet and artist who wanted to transcend his earthly afflictions.

Next to the glory of his paintings, it's easy to forget that Dante Gabriel Rossetti was a talented poet as well. It's easy to overlook his written work, even such classics as "Jenny" and "The Blessed Damozel", and the sonnets.
In this lovely anthology, Jan Marsh -- the foremost authority on the Pre-Raphaelite circle -- has collected and arranged Rossetti's writings. Buy this book, and sample the elegance of Victorian literature, and the genius of Rossetti.
