Cosmos Mariner,

This review is from: Collected poems (Hardcover)
This is Aiken's "best of" collection, and when he's good, he's good. When he's bad he's not terrible, but can get a bit bogged down, wordy, and just a skosh tedious at times. The sheer output of the guy, which must be literally millions of words, practically guarantees that not every pearl is pure genius. (Call me a swine, Aiken lovers.) Still, this collection shines.
The book itself is wonderfully made, the pages silky smooth, with a pleasing font easy to read. I bought a copy rated "good" and even though it is well over 50 years old the spine is still very good, with no sign of any looseness of pages. Not to mention it has that great "old book" smell when you open it. Way to go, Oxford Press. |
