Editorial Reviews

Review

This new, revamped version of Collectible Glassware - Ninth Edition is just as enjoyable to use as the previous publications and a few small, but effective changes have increased the ease in which you can access well researched information. Gene Florence and his wife, Cathy, know their glass after more than 30 years in the business and their books reflect this knowledge. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another home run for Gene Florence, December 21, 1999
Numerous glass companies from the "good old days" are represented in this edition and this IS another "must have" for the serious Anchor-Hocking, Fire-King and EAPC collectors to carry around with them in the car! Most importantly the photography is, as with all of Florence's books, beautiful and extremely color accurate. Price guidelines are updated and in tune with prices at the auctions. You don't even have to be a glassware collector to enjoy this book, it would make an excellent gift to someone's mom!

4.0 out of 5 stars A must-have guide for collectors and sellers alike., November 15, 2003

This review is from: Collectible Glassware from the 40s, 50s, 60s (Hardcover)
This is another important addition to my library of collectible, kitchenware and depression glass books.

More than 40 new patterns are included and pricing and many pictures have been updated. I like the alphabetical listing because it is easy to find the patterns I'm looking for.

As an avid collector, I find this book invaluable in helping me pay reasonable prices for my collectible glassware.

I would give this book a 5 star rating if it had more information on Fenton's Hobnail pattern. This pattern is often wrongly identified with other similar hobnail glass pieces and it would help me immensely if the pictured pieces showed the manufacturer's number.

I heartily recommend this book to collectors and dealers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous photography, histories, and general information., April 10, 1999
By A Customer
I have absolutely fallen in love with Anchor Hocking's Fire King pieces, so I bought this book as a reference guide to begin my collection. I looked through about 8 books on glassware, but this is the ONLY one that had the best pictures and information. I did also buy another book by Gene Florence (mostly for a slightly different range in pricing), but this is the one that I keep going back to for reference. I am amazed at the number of pieces shown, and in color, which is extremely helpful for any new collector. I would recommend this book, as well as his Fire King book (minus the errors I keep hearing about!) to anyone who wants a couple of well-rounded guides to finding Fire King pieces.
