THE MISFITS FROM 1979-1983,
By A Customer
This review is from: Collection 2 (Audio CD)
COLLECTION II gives newer fiends another chance to hear some songs that are now only in the hands of the vinyl collectors. COUGH/COOL, CHILDREN IN HEAT, RAT FINK, HORROR HOTEL (there is a live version available on EVILIVE) & MEPHISTO WALTZ (actually a SAMHAIN song was included on this MISFITS release by GLENN DANZIG for unknown reasons) are the only songs on here not available on other releases. The other songs are a few from the MISFITS early EPs, a couple from WALK AMONG US & several tracks from EARTH A.D. Much like MISFITS (COLLECTION I) this collection runs you through all the styles of the MISFITS mad world but this collection takes you back a little earlier than the first one. Once again if your looking to get every song by the MISFITS pick this up other wise there's not much to offer unless you haven't bought some of the other collecions. COLLECTION II is a great representation of the MISFITS from 1979 to 1983 & I would recommend it over COLLECTION I or LEGACY OF BRUTALITY if you want only 1 album that truely let's you know what the MISFITS are all about! If you really like songs 1-6 go the next step & buy STATIC AGE. Maybe your more drawn to tracks 7-8 then pick up WALK AMONG US. Let's just say your demented enough to want more of tunes number 16-20 then run don't walk to get EARTH A.D.

Praise to Misfits,

All right, all you little pop punk people who say that Good Charlotte and Blink 182 is the real source for punk ... think again. Try categorizing Good Charlotte with a Sally Struthers infommerical or a Tony Robbins Seminar ... they suck. For true fans of punk this is ... the BEST FRIGGIN collection of Misfits songs next to Collection 1. This is my favorite collection because it offers some of the best songs. "Return of the Fly," "Last Caress," "We Are 138" "Children in Heat" and "Attitude" perhaps the best. This CD falls into the best collection of classic punk rock songs, and Glenn Danzig is good, giving his best singing voice to some songs with horror-movie lyrics. I hate it when I talk to people, and they say that Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and Blink 182 is the best punk out there ... no. Try giving a listen to Minor Threat, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Ramones, Sex Pistols, JFA, New York Dolls, Anti-Flag, Stooges, or any of the old school punk, so as to listen to where it all came from.

"This day anything goes. Burning bodies hanging from poles. I remember Halloween.",

The first Misfits collection brought together many of the most memorable and catchy tunes from the all-time great horror-punk band's career. But that is far from being all the Misfits you need. So by popular demand: 20 more sonically gore-tastic howlers from Danzig and the boys to put you in the mood for evil. This second best-of collection features songs that have been covered by the likes of Metallica, Guns 'n Roses, and AFI, and one that was appropriately featured in Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween. So consider this CD every bit as vital as the first if you're a newcomer to the punk rock art form. And if you aren't: shouldn't you already have this?"I got something to say I killed your baby today And it doesn't matter much to me As long as it's dead Well I got something to say I raped your mother today And it doesn't matter much to me As long as she spread Sweet lovely death I am waiting for your breath Come sweet death, one last caress" Charming, no? The really sinister thing about The Misfits is you'll be singing along with this sort of stuff, even if you really like babies and your mother. The buzzsawing guitar, Glenn Danzig's Evil Elvis delivery, the rockin' beats; this band is hard to resist for fans of aggressive music. And if you love horror too then forget about it. What other band before these guys would not only write a song about Return of the Fly (1959), but add "with Vincent Price" to the chorus just in case you didn't know they were singing about that exact movie? Or how about an ode to The Return of the Living Dead, "Braineaters" ("Brains for dinner, brains for lunch, brains for breakfast, brains for brunch, brains at every single meal why can't we have some guts?")? Masterful. Other standout tracks include the downright mean "Attitude", the youth rebellion anthem "Children in Heat", "Hatebreeders", and of course "Halloween". The sound overall is a bit heavier than the first Misfits Collection so newbies may want to try the first disc on for size first, but the song quality is certainly comparable so don't be afraid of picking this one up if you're a fan of hardcore punk. There are a couple of unreleased tracks on here that are not true Misfits recordings ("Halloween II", for one), but they are pretty moody and cool so I'll take them anyways. This disc has been my personal Halloween tradition for the better part of a decade now and I don't see that changing anytime soon. This is another perfect album to set the mood for a horrorfest at any time of year.

This cd is one of the best cd's ive ever heard, because it puts together all the greatest hits from them before they lost Danzig and started to suck. Of all of the songs of course the greatest is Last Caress. Without this cd i wouldn't be the fiend that i am today.

This and every other misfits/samhain, masterpiece, is the only soundtrack to the best holiday in the world. HALLOWEEN. Right about september 21st i get out the box set, collection I, COLLECTION II, static age, the new misfits releases and the samahin tapes my brothers friend, Scott made for me, and i put em on until i have brown leaf vertigo in my eyes. This is probably the most, uh, Halloweeny misfits cd.Last caress is the most amazing piece of art evr heard or seen. Its so simple yet how could glenn danzigs devilocked little head have come up with it. I think ive listened to it 7 times in a row. In fact if im in a band i dont know if ill play it because im afraid ill shame the song. Buy this cd. Buy this cd. Buy this cd. (im using up space.) Buy this cd. Buy this cd. Buy this cd. (are you gonna buy it yet?) Buy this cd. Buy this cd. buy this cd. Buy this cd. BUY IT!!!!!!!

For all true punk fans this is your Mecca,

The Misfits, ever since Glenn Danzig learned to take out his aggresions on our ears, have been hallowed in rock history. The ultimate punk band put out the ultimate punk album with the release of Collection II. It shows us all what is so very right about punk. Some songs, such as 138 and Ratt Fink, make no sense to most people, but in that divine truth lies the whole mission statement of punk. Tracks like Attitude and Last Caress are revered by today's artists, and with good reason. Not only does Danzig assault, or insult our ears, he makes us have a good time doing it. If he is not repeating an almost toughtless pharse, he is singing about unspeakable horrors commited to cats. If you are looking for an album that was made strickly for lyrical content, then click to another area, because this disk is only for the fun at heart. This album speaks of a time when it was alright to joke about animal cruelty, and when it was alright to just listen to something and not have to flex the old cerabelum just to comprehend an opening guitar chord. If love the way music feels, then grad this disk now.

REVIEW FROM A NON PUNK FAN,
By J. Ocampo (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Collection 2 (Audio CD)
I know what you're thinking, who cares what a NON Punk fan has to say about this album?Well, here's the story. My cousin is into punk and is a member of a band that plays that sort of music, he turned me on to the Misfits with this album. When I heard these songs, We are 138, Attitude, and the rest of them, I was like "WOW, this is some good stuff cuzz, and I don't even listen to punk!" I saw this CD on sale at a record store and bought up my own copy in a a minute! The moral of the story is, this music is so good that even those who are not into punk can enjoy it. Check it out.

This collection isn't for die hard fans only. I can say that because I'm not a die hard Misfits 'freak'. I just like the music. Don't even have to be that into punk or horror movies to like it, actually. People love a good tune and this is some of the catchiest stuff I've ever heard. It's great rock music. Period. I'll never forget discovering this music so long ago and instantly loving it. "Last Caress" was a revelation. These Misfits recordings will stand the test of time. But it does help to appreciate B horror films.

I prefer Collection II,
By Johny Bottom "Insane and lonely guitarist" (Jacksonville, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Collection 2 (Audio CD)
It seems most 'Fiends' prefer The Misfits Collection I better. I love it too, but I find myself listening to Collection II far more often. Now I have nothing against raw sounds and bad production, my own band has plenty of that, and I admit that the raw, unpolished sound is a large part of the Misfits charm, however, a little production can go a long way.Collection II has some of my favorite Misfits songs and the entire album sounds better overall than Collection I. 'We are 138', 'Nike a go go', 'Queen Wasp', 'Last Caress', Halloween 1 and 2', and 'Hatebredders' are in my opinion essential songs for a Fiend to have and I believe the best versions of these songs are found right here. For new Misfits fans and potential Fiends, I highly recommend Collections I and II to start you off. Some will like Collection I better, some will prefer II. I say as long as people are still listening to the Misfits it's a good thing and we can all celebrate one of the most unique, mysterious, and original rock bands of all time. Cheers to all you Fiends!

You just can't beat the Misfits,
By N. Durham "Big Evil" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

A worthy introduction to the Misfits for new fans, "Collection II" compiles some of the band's best and most recognizeable songs like the classic "We Are 138", "Attitude", "Cough/Cool", "Last Caress", "Return of the Fly", "Halloween", "Braineaters", "Devil's Whorehouse", and the demonic "Bloodfeast", "Collection II" is pure Misfits style toungue in cheek punk. While this disc may not be as great as "Static Age" or "Walk Among Us", and it features tracks that can be found on other Misfits releases, this is still an excellant album that fully displays how real punk rock is done. Glenn Danzig's unholy howl will send chills down your spine, so put down your Good Charlotte and Blink 182 CD's and give this a listen.
