Odds and Sods, May 24, 2009
This review is from: The Collection (20 Songs Castle Comunications) (Audio CD)
This is one of those odds and sods collections. It contains studio tracks that didn't make it to an album and some live tracks. It is 72 minutes long and the sound quality is mostly good throughout.
The best material is the live tracks, except that Bruce's voice is pretty rough and that it mostly a rehash of old Cream songs. Ginger Baker is on at least a few of the live tracks. There are some pretty good performances of these songs.
There are some interesting reworks of some of the songs that almost make this collection worth getting.
About half of the songs are boring, even with Eric Clapton on guitar. You can really pick out his playing on some of the songs. The liner notes don't indicate who plays on the individual songs, and I don't think there are any instances where Clapton and Baker are on the same song.
I bought this CD in a mini boxset, along with the Jack Bruce album, Monkjack. That album is boring and tedious. The Collection does have some great moments. I think about 11 of the 20 songs are worth keeping.
