More Than The Best!,

When Burton Cummmings left the "Guess Who", it was a real test for his talent. This Rhino collection proves that Cummings is a long lasting Canadian/World treasure of an artist. Most people will only recognize "Stand Tall", a huge hit from the seventies, but there is so much more to this twenty song collection. "I'm Scared" is as soulful as Cummings gets and "Never Had A Lady Before" is a romantic masterpiece. For bouncy rock 'n roll, there is the clever "Charlemagne" and "My Own Way To Rock". Never one to ignore his balladeer side, Cummings gives great performances on the essential "Timeless Love" and "I Will Play A Rhapsody". Other than the first cut, "Fine State Of Affairs" should have a been a huge single. It is one of the most finely crafted pop singles he has ever created and a testament to this fine collection.

Burton is THE voice of rock and roll.,

Aside from having a vocal range that most singers would die for, Burton also brings classical training in flute and piano to mix in with his rock and roll roots. He can rock like Jim Morrison and then belt out a pop standard Bobby Darin would envy. If you've ever been in love and lost, his song "Stand Tall" will immediately transport you back to that moment in time. See him live if you can as he is as good live as in the studio. Buy two of this CD as you will wear one out.

this cd is a must for anyone who ever loved and lost. it is raw emotion laid bare. as open and honest as it gets! Any opportunity to see Burton live should be taken. He captivates an audience like no one else. Would that all the solo stuff he has put out be made available. For anyone who would like to see Burton on the silver screen, don't miss "Melanie" an early 80's film starring Paul Sorvino, Don Johnson and Glynnis O'Connor. Burton also has tracks on the soundtrack for the movie California Dreamin'. I never tire of the vocal prowess this man has been gifted with. I bought 2 of this one and have highly recommended it to many friends!!!!! Wear a rhinestone tie and carry a white rose. Cleveland never sounded so good!!!!

A Nearly Faultless Collection,

Two thumbs up to the folks at Rhino - this album was very obviously lovingly compiled by real BC fans, and with the approval of the man himself. All seven of his solo albums are represented, perhaps unsurprisingly the focus belongs on the first three. His best known solo tunes such as "Stand Tall", "I'm Scared", "Break It To Them Gently" and "You Saved My Soul" are all here, along with a choice selection of album cuts. The only quibble about song selection I have is that his second effort, the lacklustre "My Own Way To Rock" is overrepresented. An extra track from "Woman Love", or better still one of the albums still unavailable on CD would have been better. Nevertheless with a track list containing such titles as "Is It Really Right", "Charlemagne", "I Will Play A Rhapsody", "Fine State Of Affairs", "Heart" and "Take One Away" there can hardly be much room for complaint. Of course there are many other great tracks on his albums, but if you want a solid overview of his career, or just need an introduction to it, then this will satisfy your needs ably.

Burton Cummings beat still goes on and in a new direction!,

This is a excellent CD album by the talented former band member. Who decided to leave The Guess Who in 1975 and started going into a new direction of his and became a solo artist. And did his first self title album that year. Cummings was the lead vocals and spirit of the rock'n roll psychedelic sixties group The Guess Who and sang their first song called "These Eyes". Now with a greatest hits collection for the very first time in hislifetime. Cummings performs most of his most memorable songs about himself like "Stand Tall" "I'm Scared" and "You Saved My Soul". Which these are my favorite tunes to listen. So I think this review and the album should be. When I give it "TWO THUMBS WAY UP!" right here.

This one evokes a gamut of feelings. THE VOICE of Canada.,

An unparalelled effort. Satin set to music. I find myself lost in the raw emotion of the ballads. The heartbreak of having loved and lost is relived in STAND TALL. I adore the rollicking MY OWN WAY TO ROCK. It has become my personal mantra. For anyone who loves pure, unadulterated vocals, you have to lend this man your ear. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Let's get all the solo stuff released!!!! I'm anxiously awaiting.

Just received this CD and now more than ever wonder why we haven't heard from Mr. Cummings for a while. To list all the classic Cummings tracks would be to list nearly all of them. If you are a Burton Cummings or Guess Who fan, this title is a must. If you ar not a fan already, try this one and you will be.
