The Dan Reed Network (along with Living Colour) led the 80's trend of funk rock. Their debut album was produced by Bruce Fairbairn (Bon Jovi, Aerosmith) and merged the rock of the aforementioned Bon Jovi with the funkiness of a Prince album of the era. It was rock with a difference. They caught on in the northeastern U.S., but not many other places. Still, they did manage a few hits and all their best is assembled on this budget priced collection.

there's just not enough room on an 80-minute cd to put all of Dan Reed Network's best songs. this is, however, a good compilation of songs from a prolific songwriter and his hard-hitting, funky, rockin' band....

there are a few cool things here that you can't get on their 3 studio releases, a highlight being Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) playing with Dan on "long way to go".

buy this cd, and if you can get your hands on "Dan Reed Network", "Slam", and "the Heat", do it! because if you're really serious about experiencing the whole DRN collection, you'll want all the discs available; and that includes "Live At Last", (which is whole other review all together!)
