3.0 out of 5 stars Yawn!
I was hoping for better. The songs just weren't clean clear music - it sort of muddled through and was okay.

When will we see more Doug Smith?

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing, October 2, 2006
This review is from: The Collection (Audio CD)
I am an aspiring old finger picker myself and have met Doug at one

of his concerts. He absolutely loves to play and his skill is second to

none! I think this is his best CD yet and I own several of them. I only

wish he had put "Order of Magnitude" on the CD as that is my favorite.

He won the National Finger Picking championship in Winfield KS this year

and it was rightly deserved. If you EVER get a chance to see him perform

live, don't miss him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely BEAUTIFUL Classical guitar CD, November 17, 2011

If you want to start, or build, a classical guitar collection, you MUST have this one. Doug Smith is a genius and the quality of the recording is superb. I've bought other CDs of classical guitar that were not recorded properly or something, they sounded like they were in a well or tinny. Just beautiful music that we have constantly playing in the background of our home. When I have company over, they all ask who that is when Doug's music plays.

Very good CD by Dough Smith, I've purchased two more of his CDs based on this CD, and they are just as good.

5.0 out of 5 stars In a Nutshell, Beautiful Songs Played Incredibly Well by the 2006 National Fingerpicking Champ, December 19, 2007
This review is from: The Collection (Audio CD)
I have been playing this album over and over again in my IPOD. Doug is an amazing player and a talented composer (as well as a great teacher and performer). I met him this summer at Mark Hanson's Accent on Music Guitar seminar and bought this CD after hearing him play live. You will not regret this purchase. Doug is classically trained but plays on a steel string and writes very clever and catchy pieces. Doug has amazing command of walking basslines under his melodies and rhythm. Renewal and August the 23rd are wonderful; both in DADGAD tuning, but don't sound celtic at all like you might expect. No throwaway material here. Also recommended are the Power of Two (Doug and Mark Hanson) and his christmas albums (his version of Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring from his first Christmas album is superb, better than Kottke's in my opinion).
