Since there is no domestic in-print CD of Edward Bear available, this is about your only choice for this material. While "Last Song" is readily available on compilation CD's, if you're looking for either of their other two U.S.-charted singles or album cuts, this is all that's out there at this time.

Edward Bear and Larry Evoy.Larry was The Bear and the Bear was Larry.I remember seeing them at a now defunct local watering hole named 'The Barn' in my hometown in the early 70's,just when the string of hits were coming into their own. This is still another example of some terrific Cancon (Canadian Content) music. The one regret that I have was in not asking Larry Evoy, the groups drummer and lead singer was if a number of the songs were interconnected.Pop the CD in your player and if you play 'You,Me & Mexico,Masquerade,Last Song,Close Your Eyes and Same Old Feeling ' in order they definately tell a story.Five wonderful ballads from a more innocent time.Naive? Maybe a little but well worth the nostalgia value.'Freedom For the Stallion' was another great ballad and it was to be held in the same high esteem as the more well known Three Dog Night version.Larry Evoy also had modest solo success with the single 'Here I go Again'.Canadian groups Gary and Dave and Major Hooples Boarding House also had similiar styles. If you like The Bear, you'll like these too.Now if our friends at AMAZON will only put the above Edward Bear tunes into real player...in that order of course!

Done by Capitol of Canada, the sound quality is decent and all tracks in true stereo except one ("On and On"). A bit strange situation considering this is from 1975 when virtually everything was done in stereo.

If you're looking to obtain Edward Bear on CD, this is about all that's available at the time of this review, but do it quickly since this CD is from 1991 and there's no telling how much longer it will be available.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice find, September 18, 1999
By A Customer

I'm really glad I found this CD. Listening to "Last Song" and "Close Your Eyes" instantly transported me back to the early 70s. Back to a time when The Beatles had all just started their solo careers. Back to the days of Jim Croce, Elton John, Three Dog Night and Don McLean. And back to a time before disco came along and spoiled everything.

Edward Bear was one of those groups that always had me wondering "Whatever became of...?" This CD answers that question, plays you some old favorite songs and introduces you to a few new songs you never knew the group did. A very nice find indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Close Your Eyes They're Back Again, December 22, 2005
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
Another solid 70's band that faded into obscurity. The nice thing about living in Canada was that we got to see all of the minor as well as the major acts. Edward Bear fell between the two. The original members got together in the late sixties and took their name from a more famous bear named Winnie. All of their hits are here as well as a cover of "Freedom for the Stallion" , a song that was also covered by "The Hues Corporation" and popularized by "Three Dog Night". Its mostly the type of music that most will remember a favourite love by from "The Last Song" to "Close Your Eyes" (I'm back again). A good middle of the road pop album to melt back the years.

We all know "Last Song" but it's the follow up single, "Close Your Eyes", that makes this CD such a find. Liner notes are fun, and you'll find out what Edward Bear has in common with acts like Toby Beau. (Great music trivia question.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Wow, I can't believe I found it., August 30, 2010
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
"The last song" was one of my favorite 45's. I wore it out. I never knew anyone else that had heard it till 1999. Ronda and I where at a band practice, I was humming the tune and she asked me what song that was. When I told her Edward Bear The Last Song she said I can't believe you know that song. It was one of her favorites also. Sadly Ronda died in 2002, but as she waited for the Lord to take her home I sang this song to her. Thank you Edward Bear for one of the most memorial songs I've ever heard.

I've been looking off and on for Edward Bear for a couple of years now, and, although this is missing some of the songs that I had on 45s when I was too young to appreciate them, it's still an acceptable collection. Too bad they faded into obscurity, because I really thought their songwriting was amazing, and I can still listen to their stuff today, which is more than I can say for a lot of the bands out there.
