Honored to work with her,
By Nickolaus Pacione "Co-Author Of House of Spid... (Joliet, Illinois, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Collection II (Paperback)
I've been reading some of the stories in this book off and on between other books and so far I completed reading the vampire story. Marjanovic is an author to keep an eye on because she provides the alternative to what you see out there now as far as the trends go. Having the chance to publish her too, and now working on a story with her I got to see how imaginative she is first hand. The story that is getting to me in the collection is the final story.
The nice pattern of the poem then story then poem is something that will make this collection the makings of a horror classic. Her voice reminds me greatly of Edgar Allan Poe if he was colaborating with Stephen King; if you're tired of authors like Poppy Z. Brite running the show -- give this author a read. You won't be disappointed. She was imaginative in this book, but she got even more imaginative with the story "Earthquake Forces" and "The MacIntosh Haunting." She knows her roots in horror and this is the type of horror that will scare a lot of the old gothic masters. I could see her going onto be published in the professional markets and giving the HWA authors a run for their money. The first story I read of hers is one titled "Good Riddence" and this one is one of her darker stories in the set, but they only get darker from there. You can find those two other stories in the publications QUAKES AND STORMS: A NATURAL DISASTER ANTHOLOGY, then on issue two of the Ethereal Gazette. She does more than kick ass as a writer, it is a matter of time before she gets picked up by a professional or a few other small press magazines. This is old school horror at its best. |
