5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a BEST OF..., April 4, 2005

For those waiting for a true compilation, this is almost it. This album has tracks from his first two albums -- 'There's nothing like this' (2, 3, 8, 9, 14) and 'Music' (1, 4-7, 12, 13). NOTHING from 'For Pleasure', 'This is not a love song', or 'Best By Far', which could've easily made this album the definitive collection. Basically call this the Talkin Loud/Kongo Records Compilation, so hopefully the others from RCA and Oyster Music are soon to follow. Still, for those unfamiliar, this is a decent enough sampling for most. The only *new* tracks were 'Use Me' and 'Reality' (which is a take off from Get to Know you Better albeit with socio-political lyrics.) As far as albums goes, it flows quite well. The first 3 tracks are mellow, 4 and 5 are upbeat, 6 and 7 to some degree are let downs. By Track 8 things start to pick up again. Tracks 4, 5, and 12 are my favorites which showcase a variation of styles even in fast tempo songs. Tracks 1, 3, and 13 are good too from a ballad perspective.

Still waiting for a full "Best of Compilation". But this will do for now. 4.5 rounded to 5. Omar's website -- http://www.omarmusic.net

5.0 out of 5 stars Get a taste of Omar, January 25, 2008
By

This CD is great to get an idea of who Omar Lye-Fook is. I am SO glad I added this one to my collection. Other CDs by Omar that you should check out are "For Pleasure" and "Best By Far" - both EXCELLENT CDs. None of the songs on this "best of" are on either of those CDs, so it's nice you won't have duplicates.

Fave Tracks:
*There's nothing like this - Wow! This is an island groove...make you wanna sip a drink with an umbrella in it! (2nd fave track on CD)

*I'm in Love - Groovy, mid-tempo love song, Omar style!

*Use me - Remake of Bill Withers unlike you would ever imagine! Ha! Acapella..and you can really appreciate his vocals. I LOVE his VOICE!

*Tomorrow - Mid-tempo groove; please understand how talented he is...not just vocals, but as a musician

*FINE (acapella) - VOCALS! VOCALS! VOCALS! Okay, I think this might be my favorite track. What a way to close out the album. This song will make you start it all over again.

If you're new to Omar, you will appreciate his vocals and musical arrangements. It's really a crime that he's not more known in the US (*big pout*). If you're already an Omar fan, then go ahead an add this to your shopping cart - you know how Omar DOES...don't cheat yourself.

As I always say with great music...if you've come this far, whether a friend or amazon recommended this artist to you...buy this album. You will not regret it, especially at the price. Used, for about the price of a value meal at a fast food spot?? Seriously. Pick this up.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Omar Challenge, February 5, 2005
By
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
The CD is off the chain! I am new to Omar Lye-Fook, but not to soul, neo-soul, or any of the potpurri of genres represented in his work. It's just DAMN good music. If there's something notably better out there right now, I'd love to know what it is. I issue the Omar Challenge. Got something better? I'll give it a shot, but no doubt, this is a classic!
