What a Voice!,
By Michael Butts (Berkeley Springs, WV USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
No doubt about it. Along with Trisha Yearwood, Mandy Barnett and Shelby Lynne, Wynonna is among the best of our modern country female vocalists. These ladies can surely teach Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Terri Clark and Martina McBride the difference between commerciality and good old honest SINGING. This collection shows why Wynonna has transcended the country/pop genre by singing any kind of song great. "Girls With Guitars"- lots of fun. "Heaven Help My Heart" is just as good as the writer Tina Arena's version. Her ballads "She's His Only Need" - heartrending. A glorious collection for diehard fans and for anyone looking for a refreshing change from Shania Twang! Go get em Wynonna!

Hurricane Wynonna strikes back!,
By Paul W. Sager (Saint Louis, Missouri) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
Ok, we all know the history...famous duo...more awards than any other...forced to retire due to Mama Judds health. That was 1991. But could Wynonna strike out on her own without Naomi's harmonizing vocals? 1992's solo effort simply titled, Wynonna, showed them all with style, courage, and funk. Landing at #4 on Billboards Top 200 Chart, selling more copies of a female debut and having 4 #1s this album is a landmark in country music history. But the tide did not stop in 1992...1993 brought us Tell Me Why. Tell Me Why brought a new look, a new sound, and new world-wide acclaim. With the #1's Tell Me Why and Only Love, not to mention the top-10 Rock Bottom and Girls With Guitars this album showed us that there was more to come with this one named wonder. 1996 brought Wynonna's #1 To Be Loved By You. Although the album it came from, Revelations was not a sales smash it certainly was a smash for Wynonna. Using personal experience and heartache, Wynonna crafted an album that opened up her heart to all of us. Why do I expound on these albums? Because they were the ingredients for 'Collection.' Being her last album with MCA/Curb it was no wonder it would be a greatest hits album. Nothing is new here, except jazzed up versions of Rock Bottom and No One Else on Earth. It is a wonder why A Bad Goodbye was not included on this Collection. One knows that this the first of many greatest hits collection from this woman with the soul of Elvis and the guts of Patsy Cline. A woman that seems to be reckoned with. Wynonna proves that she did and can make it on her own. With over 10 top ten hits and millions of album sales she has the fan base to protect her. Her style and courage to chart her own waters will serve her well. It already has!

A Great Collection...But There's More Where These Came From,
By
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
Going solo was the best thing she ever could've done, & it shows on this collection. The Judds were good at the soft country ballad style, but whenever they experimented with blues & country-rock, they sounded silly & unconvincing. Wynonna the solo artist has no such problem, however, as she proves here. Highlights include the blues-rocker "Girls With Guitars", the spunky "Rock Bottom", the straight-country hits "I Saw the Light" & "Tell Me Why", & the beautiful "Heaven Help My Heart." Personally, I could've done without "Only Love" or "Is It Over Yet". There are plenty of other great album tracks that could've been included. But over all, a very good sample of her work.

A woman that Rocks the barn!,
By fabio-italy (milan, italy) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
Wynonna is the other country artist i got to know thru Nick (even though he's BIG time into Reba...).On the contrary of Trisha, Wynonna has more of a rough voice, she's more of a barn-type kinda girl. Her greatest hits package focuses more on uptempos than ballads. Although i must admit that the ballads are what i like best here: TO BE LOVED BY YOU and IS IT OVER YET are absolutely great! The Tina Arena's HEAVEN HELP MY HEART could have sounded better but still is a good one. NO ONE ELSE ON EARTH and GIRLS WITH GUITARS will make your feet stomp.. Again i have to point out that the european release has more tracks : a nice duet with Michael W. English called HEALING, MAKIN' MY WAY written by Diane Warren off The Associate Soundtrack, the Sheryl Crowe penned FATHER SUN and a Lynryd Skynryd cover... Great best of compilation.

Alternate single mixes!,
By Kevin Stafford (Warwick, RI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
If you are like me, you have all her great CD's. This is basically a collection of tunes from her first 3 albums. The great thing about this collection is it contains 3 very alternate mixes to 3 songs that take on a whole new personality to the tunes! "No One Else On Earth", this version rocks! cool play with her vocals and added percussion! "It's Only Love" & "Rock Bottom" differ alot too. In some cases better than the original. I can finally throw out my lousey cassette singles! Now I am waiting for Volume Two to get more remixes! Ahem, Curb/MCA! By the way...if you haven't, grab her latest CD as of this posting, "What The World Needs Now Is Love", and no, it's not the Burt Bacharach song! (thank God!) It rocks!

Essential Collection,
By

This is a collection of Wynonna's biggest hits since 1992 (up until 1997), she has had quite a few in that short time. Her beautiful voice which is sometimes fierce and fiery, but also shows compassion and strength and beauty, all at once. She is one true country diva that others could learn a thing or two from. She's right up there with the other divas: Trisha Yearwood, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Reba McEntire, etc etc. Wy gets upbeat on songs like "Rock Bottom", "Tell Me Why", "Girls With Guitars", "No One Else On Earth", "I Saw The Light" etc. And she shows her tender side on ballads like "Heaven Help My Heart", "Only Love", "She Is His Only Need", "Is It Over Yet", "To Be Loved By You" etc. This is a must have for every country fan, come discover the beauty of Wynonna's music.

Wynonna's Hit Singles...,
By Batmanbrb "batmansbrb" (Seymour, IN United States) - See all my reviews

This is a very good collection of Wynonna's hit radio singles. They represent her at her best - as far as radio songs go. Even though I already have all these songs on other CDs of hers, it was worth purchasing for the club mix version of "No One Else on Earth". I, for one, think that some of her best recordings were songs that were NOT released to radio. So, if you really enjoy the songs on this collection, I highly recommend you purchase her individual CDs - Wynonna is so much more than just these mere singles. She is an incredible artist who puts her heart and soul into every song on her CDs and she will always remain one of my all-time favorite female artists.

Wynonna Rules.,
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
This Diva Of Country Music Is Sure One Of The Best In Country Music Today. Like Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, And Martina McBride, This Girl Can Truly Sing. The Songs Prove It. She Has 5 Dance Tunes On Here. They Are: "I Saw The Light", "No One Else On Earth", "Tell Me Why", "Rock Bottom", And "Girls With Guitars". The Romantic Balled "To Be Loved By You" Is One Of My Favorite Songs To Listen To. This Is A Must Have For Any Wynonna Fan.
