Remembered for hits with Bee Gees songs,
By
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
Yvonne's biggest hit was If I can't have you, written by the Bee Gees and featured in the Saturday night fever soundtrack. It topped the American charts and also made the top five in Britain. Hello stranger (a cover of the sixties classic by Barbara Lewis) also charted in both countries, but her only really big hit apart from If I can't have you was Love me, another Bee Gees song, which reached number six in the UK.Her first (minor) British hit was I don't know how to love him, a song from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, in which Yvonne played Mary. The song was not a hit for Yvonne in America, where Helen Reddy and Petula Clark both charted. I can't get you out of my mind charted in Britain. Moment by moment and Love pains charted in America. Yvonne seemed content to sing backup on other people's records (especially Eric Clapton - listen to her singing on his Ocean boulevard album and others recorded around that time) and did not really push her solo career as much as she might have done. This collection represents her best solo work but it would have been even better if it include ore or two tracks with Eric Clapton. Of course, you solve the problem of their omission by buying his albums. It contains all the above hits except I don't know how to love him (recorded for a different record label) and could be described as typical seventies pop leaning towards soul and disco.

I really feel that Yvonne was robbed by the music industry. She never got the chance to shine like she should have been able to.
I like this whole CD, except for "I'm Gonna Use What I Got." That song is horrible! I wish they had put "More Than One, Less Than Five" on here. Due to this CD is out of print, go on ebay and purchase it. It's amazing!

Yvonne Elliman ~ The Collection,
By
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
The most extensive collection of Yvonne's hits. For example, "She'll Be The Home" which was the B side of "Hellow Stranger" can only be found on this disc. There are other great songs. The recording is excellent and leaves the listener yearning to locate all of Yvonne Elliman's albums that unfortunately have not been released on cd.
