Remembered for hits with Bee Gees songs,
By
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
Yvonne's biggest hit was If I can't have you, written by the Bee Gees and featured in the Saturday night fever soundtrack. It topped the American charts and also made the top five in Britain. Hello stranger (a cover of the sixties classic by Barbara Lewis) also charted in both countries, but her only really big hit apart from If I can't have you was Love me, another Bee Gees song, which reached number six in the UK.Her first (minor) British hit was I don't know how to love him, a song from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, in which Yvonne played Mary. The song was not a hit for Yvonne in America, where Helen Reddy and Petula Clark both charted. I can't get you out of my mind charted in Britain. Moment by moment and Love pains charted in America. Yvonne seemed content to sing backup on other people's records (especially Eric Clapton - listen to her singing on his Ocean boulevard album and others recorded around that time) and did not really push her solo career as much as she might have done. This collection represents her best solo work but it would have been even better if it include ore or two tracks with Eric Clapton. Of course, you solve the problem of their omission by buying his albums. It contains all the above hits except I don't know how to love him (recorded for a different record label) and could be described as typical seventies pop leaning towards soul and disco.

I really feel that Yvonne was robbed by the music industry. She never got the chance to shine like she should have been able to.
I like this whole CD, except for "I'm Gonna Use What I Got." That song is horrible! I wish they had put "More Than One, Less Than Five" on here. Due to this CD is out of print, go on ebay and purchase it. It's amazing!

Yvonne Elliman ~ The Collection,

The most extensive collection of Yvonne's hits. For example, "She'll Be The Home" which was the B side of "Hellow Stranger" can only be found on this disc. There are other great songs. The recording is excellent and leaves the listener yearning to locate all of Yvonne Elliman's albums that unfortunately have not been released on cd.

Yvonne Elliman achieved success in entertainment.Personally I enjoy listening to her vocalizing.I am biased to her being Hawaiian. Her collection of albums have not been issued on c.d.s.This c.d. highlights many of her more moving songs.

I've been a huge fan of Yvonne Elliman's music and have been searching for these songs that I used to listen to on her lp's (before CD's came out). Now I can reminisce back to those days! Her music soothes me and I can listen to this over and over again. I've searched on music sites but was unable to find anything until I found it on AMAZON! Thank you!

I purchased this 'collection' solely for the wonderful Barry Gibb penned song "IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU (I DON'T WANT NOBODY BABY) but was stunned at the musical fluidity of each and every track. From her sweetly pastoral ballads on through to her more charged anthems and heartbreak songs, Yvonne Elliman sings with a sense of womanly elegance and tenderness unheard of from modern performers. Sarah McLachlin comes closest but her maudlin lyrics and synthesizer heavy instrumentation relegates her to a distant incomparibility. The only two modern female artists who can compare are Basia Tzretzrelewska and Heather Nova.
I wonder if Yvonne Elliman's career was forever scarred by her association with the Brothers Gibb (Bee Gees) nauseating disco brand... but any listener of her music from this collection would hardly detect even hints of disco from this mature and lovely songstress. If you are not aware of Yvonne Elliman, then please do yourself a favor and purchase this wonderful collection. Your stereo system will be forever greatful. Once it was beleived that music could change the world. Instead music died with the likes David Bowie, The Police, Madonna, and those who followed. Yvonne Elliman's ULTIMATE COLLECTION reminds us of the artistry that once dominated the airwaves. The world changed, but not for the better... our musical angels from long ago must be crying. At least we have their recordings to take away our tears.

This is a great collection of Yvonne's. All favorites are on this cd. Her "Love Me" LP was one of my favorite's and many songs are on here. Yvonne concentrated on her family and that's commendable. I wished she was able to still record a few more works during that period though. She has a unique voice also, up there with Gloria Estevan.

It seems to me if some reviewers like a singer, they will ignore the best, most heartfelt songs in favor of a cover tune or mere commercial hit. Those songs deserve credit and you'll find 100% good stuff to show Ms. Elliman's true but underappreciated talent. Still, I cannot imagine not putting "I Can't Get You Out of My Mind" at the very top of the list. It should be on a separate album with other tunes where unabashed declarations of love are included, like "I Was Made to Love Her" and "You Got it All Over Him". Yvonne makes it so believable. In any case, you cannot go wrong by buying this piece of work. Highly recommended.

There is only one who can sing the part of Maria Magdalena in the musical JC Superstar. Not one other performer I have heart, knows how to sing the part of Maria Magdalena. Yvonne Elliman is the only and the best. The CD is disapointing in comparison with her top-performence in the musical.
