4.0 out of 5 stars Affordable Introduction
With their pinup good looks and big big hair, Platinum Blonde was Canada's answer to Duran Duran. The band took that danceable new wave style and added elements of AOR and just a little rock. Imagine Duran Duran with traces of the Outfield and early Honeymoon Suite and you'll get a good idea what Platinum Blonde was all about. It's pretty catchy stuff, and great if you're...

This Collections album is not a bad selection of Platinum Blonde tunes but it would be much better to be able to get a hold of a reissue of the Standing In The Dark album which had a certain charm and was the high point of PB's career. Hits albums always leave me feeling cold.

It's pretty catchy stuff, and great if you're an 80's pop fan, but there are times when you wonder why you didn't just spin Duran Duran's Greatest Hits album.

Sony's 2006 compilation Collections gathers 10 of the more well known Platinum Blonde songs from the band's first two albums. You get four songs from the 1983 debut Standing in the Dark and six from 1985's Alien Shores. 1987's Contact isn't represented, but there weren't really any hits from that one. The liner notes are pretty much non-existent (you basically get the cover photo and a track listing), but the sound quality is very good.

If you're looking for a more thorough anthology, the 16-track Seven Year Itch: 1982-1989 is probably your best bet. If you just want a "greatest hits" package with remastered audio quality and a budget-friendly price tag, Collections should do quite nicely.
