5.0 out of 5 stars Steffie collectors unite!
This 1996 version of Oshogatsu (Happy New Year) Barbie is sometimes thought to be part of the Dolls of the World collection. While one review realized that this doll does not feature an Asian sculpt (such as Lea), it does feature Steffie, which has often been used as Mattel's ethnic face. If you're looking for an Asian doll, I'd suggest one of the newer versions instead...

3.0 out of 5 stars Asian Barbie?
Bought this for my granddaughter to get her an asian barbie . It has long black hair and dressed in a kimono, but thats about it. It would be nice to get an asian face on it. I now realize all barbie's have the same face.

While one review realized that this doll does not feature an Asian sculpt (such as Lea), it does feature Steffie, which has often been used as Mattel's ethnic face. If you're looking for an Asian doll, I'd suggest one of the newer versions instead. Perhaps Dolls of the World Princess of Japan, Barbie Collector Dolls of the World Japan Doll, Platinum Label Japan Barbie Doll - Dolls of the WorldBarbie Collector Dolls Of The World Festivals Of The World Chinese New Year Barbie DollBarbie Princess of China - Dolls of the World Collector Edition (2001), or Dolls of the World: Princess of the Korean Court Barbie might be alternatives.

Also, I should mention that this is a collector Barbie, intended for adult collectors, aged 14 and older.

I love this doll--I think between this doll and Barbie Japanese Happy New Year Osbogatsu 1995, I like this one's shorter hair and more natural looking facial screening. Her box is pretty--I haven't been able to debox mine yet--with a flap cover sealed with Velcro. Her shoes (Geta) can also be seen from the unopened box, and are nicely done.

Plus, she's a Steffie face!
