5.0 out of 5 stars this 14th edition is a must for every collector, August 8, 1999

The 14th edition has a new color column system that makes the price guide even easier to read. Whether you're a serious investor or have a casual interest in the beautiful depression era glassware, this is the book you will turn to first, and probably most often. Many patterns, nice descriptions, accurate market values, Mr Florence is considered THE EXPERT among the depression glass community in my area. A fine reference which is a visual pleasure. If you are considering investing in depression glass, invest in this book first. You will make the purchase price back: probably with your first transaction.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent, exhaustive reference for the glass collector.., March 31, 2000

This review is from: Collector's Encyclopedia of Depression Glass (Hardcover)
Florence is the acknowledged expert when it comes to glass. This book contains literally hundreds of patterns of depression glass, arranged alphabetically. Each pattern comes with a history of the company who created it, specifics on styles within the patterns, answers to common questions, and a price guide. The photographs are professional and well-lit and make it easy to identify various subtle differences from one pattern to the next. All in all the book is a real treat to read, and makes me want to run out and buy more depresson glass! Don't hesitate, buy this book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment for Beginners, April 21, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Collector's Encyclopedia of Depression Glass (Hardcover)
As an Antique dealer of many years, I've become familiar with the pattern names, but since I did not sell (or buy) any, I knew very little about the patterns themselves. While the book is well written and laid out, I was vey disappointed in the pictures. Very few photographs showed the actual pattern itself, leaving you to view a distant image and try and figure out what's in it. I'm sure at least one picture of only the pattern could be included, instead of several pictures of different colors. I'm sure the veterans out there find this invaluable, but for a beginner, this leaves alot to be desired.
