5.0 out of 5 stars Just Fabulous!
I have needed this book for years as a longtime Vogue doll collector. Thank you to Ms Izen and Ms Stover for putting all the info in one place! We collectors owe it to these ladies for making collecting easy for us! It is a hefty book; almost too heavy to carry around to shows, but I admit, I do keep it in my car for reference. The color photos are beautiful, there...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my idea of a helpful ID Guide.
The opening chapter of this book describing the history of Vogue Dolls and Jennie Graves is really wonderful stuff, but as an identification guide, this book just doesn't make it. I think the authors and Collector Books would have created something incredible by splitting this into two volumes and not cramming so much information into such a confined space. There are...

The color photos are beautiful, there is so much information for collectors about each and every doll and all the accessories. There are prices for everything pictured, with descriptions on all. I just don't know how I lived without this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL BOOK FOR THE VOGUE GINNY COLLECTOR, March 8, 2002
This Book is great and is written so the reader can find about everything that is necessary to start a Vogue Doll collection!!! There are a couple important things I want to mention to eveyone about this book that are very helpful..The way the dolls are put in YEAR ORDER and when a doll is not pictured in this book the Authors make sure it is mentioned with the NAME OF THE DOLL and in detail what she should be wearing for that year, No doll is left out. PHOTO'S ARE GREAT!!
This Vogue book is a must for the Vogue doll collector with a wealth of information. I learned so much with this book and could not be without it! It has all you need to help you in your quest for Vogue doll collecting.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent source for the Vogue collector, May 23, 1998
By
sivin (Southern California) - See all my reviews
As a casual collector of Vogue's Ginny and Jill dolls, I'm always looking for information about their development, costumes, and history. It is easy enough to open any good doll book and find a page to two devoted to them, but to discover a source with this much information is a treat!

This handsome 300+ hardcover volume covers such topics as Vogue's incorporation, early dolls and toys made by the company, clothing tags and identifying marks, and the evolution of Ginny. A very large portion of the book is dedicated to the Ginny Doll Family.

It is a delight to browse through this book. It is well written and beautifully illustrated with a large majority of the photographs in color. Values are given and a table of contents and index are provided.

I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Bible" for Vogue Collectors by Stover & Izen, September 19, 2002
By
Dian Zillner (Gypsum, CO USA) - See all my reviews
This is an exceptional book for people who love the Vogue dolls! Illustrations and text cover both composition, hard plastic and vinyl dolls. The illustrations are many and identify hundreds of various costumes sold for the Vogue dolls. The Ginny, Jill, Jeff and Ginnette sections are especially helpful. Collectors who have costumes or dolls with missing pieces can use the book as a reference to complete outfits. If a collector likes 1950s Ginny dolls, this book offers a wealth of information and is known to collectors across the country as the "Bible" for Vogue collectors.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my idea of a helpful ID Guide., March 6, 2000

The opening chapter of this book describing the history of Vogue Dolls and Jennie Graves is really wonderful stuff, but as an identification guide, this book just doesn't make it. I think the authors and Collector Books would have created something incredible by splitting this into two volumes and not cramming so much information into such a confined space. There are hundreds of different dolls and outfits shown, but the information we need for good identification is lacking. The pictures are tiny, the shoes and/or feet of many of the dolls are cut off in the photo so it's impossible to tell what they are wearing. The small pieces to outfits aren't shown - if a dressed doll is wearing panties, how do we know what they look like? Details of accessories are incomplete - if Jill and Ginny had a revolver with their Cowgirl outfits, what was it like? Was it metal, plastic, was it completely silver in color or did it have a colored handle? This is the information that helps me as a collector when I'm sorting through bits and pieces at doll shows or trying to figure out what might be missing in a collection I'd like to buy.A huge book like this obviously took hundreds(if not thousands) of hours to research and put together, and I applaud the authors for that effort. Publishing this kind of work rarely has little monetary gain, but is done purely for a love of the hobby. If this book succeeds in interesting people in Vogue dolls, then it's a positive thing, but as a complete or definitive resource for collectors, I will still have to hunt and peck through several books for the information I need.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Ginny book!, September 10, 2002

Linda Chervenka (Fountain Hills, Az) - See all my reviews
My doll friends and I use this book daily! Especially love the 'Herstory' section where there are plenty of vintage photos showing the factory sewers and samples, Promotional events, and store displays! Book is interspersed with actual catalog photos and many, many color photos of dolls from private collections. Great to see a variety of Vogue dolls all in one book, too!

The book is a valuable tool for anyone interested in Ginny, particularly a collector. It has thousands of color photos of Ginnys and of costumes, especially those from the 1950s. It's really a wonderful book, and I'm so happy to have it!

2.0 out of 5 stars No information on Cosmopolitan Doll & Toy Corp's. "Ginger", January 28, 2005
By
This review is from: Collector's Encyclopedia of Vogue Dolls (Hardcover)
Even though Kathryn Kay was mentioned as a former Vogue Doll employee, her doll "Ginger" by the Cosmopolitan Doll & Toy Corp. was not illustrated and with absolutely NO information. This book is otherwise recommended for Vogue dolls only.
