70's rarities,

This review is from: Collector's Essentials: 70's (Audio CD)
With so many 70's compilation discs in the marketplace, it's refreshing to find one with so many charting tunes that seldom, if ever, appear elsewhere. This volume in the Dick Bartley series gathers up an eclectic group of lesser hits but keeps the mix familiar enough with several top-20 charting successes. And with this piece now out of print, its price on the secondary market attests to its desirability. A few of the rarely-seen-on-CD tunes here include Rose Colored Glass' runner-up version of Orpheus' "Can't Find The Time", Gladstone's "A Piece Of Paper" and "Louisiana" from Mike Kennedy a/k/a Michael Kogel of the 60's group Los Bravos.
Sonically, this set is superior as well with all but one track (3) appearing in stereo. A decent liner notes booklet with commentary on the included tracks completes the piece. In itself, an excellent domestic effort and receives less than five stars for its somewhat meager track count and when compared to the extraordinary compilations done by Ace of the U.K. or Bear Family of Germany.

Delightful compilation of music that you may not recognize by title- but when you hear it, it'll make you say "oh yeah, I remember that one"...Most seem to be of late '60s early '70s vintage (latest one is First Class' "Beach Baby" from 1974), are the original version played on the radio, and in all but one case are stereo recordings of excellent quality (the one mono cut is great, too!) Highly recommended! Don't miss it!

A great collection of songs that oldies and A/C stations have forgotten. I bought the CD mainly for "1900 Yesterday" but the entire CD is worth a listen. It's nice to discover these forgotten favorites again!

My favorite songs on this disc are Rose Colored Glass'rendition of the old Orpheus tune "Can't Find The Time" and the sweet sound of Toby Beau's "My Angel Baby" This CD contains alot of great songs that you don't hear much on the radio these days. A worth while investment for anybody with an eclectic taste for music.
