Bang for your buck, September 30, 2008
This review is from: Collector's Edition Herb Alpert (Audio CD)
As stated elsewhere, the 3 CDs you get here are the complete "Whipped Cream"(plus 2 bonus tracks not listed on this package),"Going Places" and "What Now My Love" CDs,remastered from Mr. Alpert's original tapes and made available individually from Shout Factory in 2005 for $13.98 each. So $42 vs $22(or less)-that's a great deal, hence the 5 star listing. What is missing are the graphics and booklets for the Shout releases, but the booklet for the tin is a nice extra. And while I usually throw these tins in the recycler, this one features an embossed image of the original Whipped Cream model and, outside of the colors not quite up to snuff,is a curiosity worth keeping. I pulled all of the cardboard packaging from the set,put the CDs into protective sleeves and added some of my other Alpert CDs to fill up the tin. For many, this is all the Alpert they may want.In some ways,it's also a better buy than "Definitive Hits",the only domestic CD comp of the TJB available,as "Def Hits" has sound issues and you get 8 of the 13 TJB tracks from "Def Hits" in the tin. Some non-hit tracks worth repeated listening:"Memories of Madrid","Mae" and "Five Minutes More". These 3 albums sold so well in their prime that the TJB logged a record 18 weeks as #1 act on the Billboard album chart in 1966.

Great Alpert collection!, September 18, 2008
This review is from: Collector's Edition Herb Alpert (Audio CD)
The Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass Collector's Edition 3 CD box is a perfect introduction to the best work in the Tijuana Brass Catalog. The three core albums of the TJB output are gathered here: Whipped Cream & Other Delights, Going Places! and What Now My Love. Originally released in 1965 and 1966 and containing the most loved and requested Herb Alpert hits like A Taste Of Honey, Tijuana Taxi and Spanish Flea, the remastered versions (complete with 2 "surprise" bonus tracks) are also flawless sonically. A 12 page booklet with a well written biograpphy and several unpublished photos from the group's latest period in 1969 is a welcome addition. What is missing are the original cover photos to Going Places! and What Now My Love. Apart from that this a highly reccomendable item.

Inexpensive alternative to purchasing the individual CDs., January 7, 2010
This review is from: Collector's Edition Herb Alpert (Audio CD)
This is a decent little box set for the money, and is a cheaper alternative to downloading the 30+ songs from itunes or purchasing the individual CDs. Although not stated in the description of this produce, the CDs are the remastered versions and they sound great! They all come packed in a nice little tin (who wouldn't want a tin with a naked chick covered in whipped cream on it?!) unfortunately, this is not the box to get if you are a music collector. The only artwork included is for the album "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" and there is no artwork or liner notes for the other 2 CDs in the box. The CD holder inside is kind of cheap looking, but it securely holds the disks, so it works just fine. This is probably one of the best collection to get you started if you are new to Herb Alpert, but you will want to purchase the original albums with liner notes if you decide you really want to have a decent Herb Alpert collection. I purchased this CD as a gift for my little brother, and although I own a lot of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass on vinyl and CDs, I decided to get a second copy for myself just to add to my music collection. My brother is really enjoying the gift, and I feel it was well worth the money to introduce him to some new(old) music.
