Don't Miss This Treasure Trove of Original Mantovani Gems!s, March 11, 2003

The producers of this spectacular Vocalian release must be profusely commended for digging deep and finding an enormous treasure of previously unreleased Mantovani music from the 1950's. Fans who would have been content in getting their favourite Mantovani LP's from that era released on CD will be ecstatic when they hear the selections on this CD. They represent some of the most beautiful and ingenious compositions and authentically personal arrangements of the great master of light orchestral music. One concert piece alone entitled "American Gypsy" is worth the price of the CD. The first track is Mantovani's award winning composition, Toyshop Ballet, and those who never can get enough of the "Italia Mia" and "Summertime in Venice" sounds of the original Mantovani orchestra under his own baton will be romanced with the previously unreleased tracks, Mandolin Serenade, Souvenir D'Italie, and Isle of Capri. The strings and the wind soloists perform at their very best on virtually all of these 1950's selections, but the passionate sounds of "To My Love" and the novelty piece, "The Canary", which amused and amazed audiences at Mantovani concerts around the world, are indeed special treasures. This CD is a "must buy" for Mantovani music lovers everywhere throughout such an ailing world. This shimmering treasure trove of Mantovani's splendid music hidden for more than four decades will be the right balm to help escape and enjoy.
