5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for your collection!
This is a wonderful CD with vocals and voice from our Queen of Country Music. It allows the listener a bit of insight to Tammy during her recording of some of the songs. A must have!!

Calling myself a huge fan of Tammy Wynette is an understatement. She has always been #1 in my mind, therefore I have been anxious to find new CD releases of her albums. I bought the Collector's Edition which was remixed by Billy Sherrill himself and immediately wondered what went wrong. I love the idea of having an "uncut" version of the songs and being able to hear Tammy, Billy, and the studio musicians conversing with one another, but all of the previously unreleased numbers were evidently mastered on a different speed machine. It's like listening to a 33 rpm record played at 45 rpm. Common Epic Records! The First Lady of Country Music deserves much more than she got out of this tribute. I've never heard of a recall on a CD, but Epic needs to remaster this one and recall and replace the entire stock with a carefully crafted tribute to Tammy. Needless to say, I am disappointed in this release. Epic, Tammy gave her all. Now it's your turn.

3.0 out of 5 stars There IS a recall on this CD, October 22, 2002

I haven't taken advantage of the recall, but Tammy's husband did mention that CBS would replace the "speeded-up" Wynette with a correctly mastered copy upon request. I hope I had something to do with it ... I actually wrote to him and said, "what's wrong with these recordings?"
Anyway, I haven't asked for the new one yet, 'cos I don't want to part with my copy for even a day. I never know when I might NEED it.
Also of note, the CD advertises that 5 songs are unreleased ... that's not exactly true. 3 of the SONGS were not released before, but including those there are a total of 8 unreleased tracks ... and technically ALL of them are new (with the recording/mastering screw-up!) This includes a completely different version of "Stand By Your Man" and some cute studio patter with Tammy.
Though Tammy DID record a song with The Chipmunks, she never recorded a song AS a chipmunk as far as I know.
It's still worth the gamble -- no matter if you get a bad or a good copy -- and you CAN exchange a bad one.

3.0 out of 5 stars An EPIC let down, November 18, 1998
This review is from: Collector's Edition (Audio CD)
First off, it is not Tammy Wynette that disappoints in this collection, it is EPIC Records that fails. They present this collection undocumented, boast more "unreleased" songs than are contained in the collection and their remixing of these early recordings is poor to say the least, with Wynette's voice sounding sped up to sometimes near Minnie Mouse quality. EPIC (Sony Music) should show as much loyalty to Tammy as she did them. Future (and hopefully there will be more) releases should be placed in more considerate production hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars worth getting used to!, May 23, 1999

This review is from: Collector's Edition (Audio CD)
While the mixing has changed the pitch of Wynette's voice to one we've never before heard her in, _Collection_ is worth adding to your own collection simply for the inclusion of the spine-chilling "Easy Come, Easy Go." This song, from Wynette's _Til I Can Make It On My Own_ album of 1976 (which NEEDS DESPERATELY TO BE RELEASED ON CD!), is one of her best. Also noteworthy are her version of "What's Your Mama's Name" and "You Can Be Replaced." Let's hope that this release will stimulate Sony/Epic to re-release more of Wynette's classic recordings--and this time, Sony, give us each individual album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tammy is always great,.... so warm hearted and real!, April 2, 1999

This review is from: Collector's Edition (Audio CD)
I've grown up in Florida in the 60's. Tammy was part of my life (and living music). She made some great albums and I am despirately trying to get hold of them. I live in Germany now and would travel far if I could get her LP's or CD's of "way back when". My Mother went through really hard times and Tammy's music helped her. If anyone knows how to get hold of such old versions a very good deed would be done and my friendship won!!
