5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for the toy collector, February 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Collector's guide to American transportation toys, 1895-1941
The Freed book is one of a kind. I have many similar attempts on my bookshelf, but this one is the most thumbed-through, and clearly the most useful. For American toys only, and the better quality and older ones. The book was assembled in the spirit of scholarship, not glitz, and I even doubt if the author has a toy collection. Many photographs, detailed description, approximate costs at auction or sale are all there. I went to the trouble to call the author to thank him for this fine effort. Paperback keeps it cheap...if you can find it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Resource!, August 25, 2010
This review is from: Collector's guide to American transportation toys, 1895-1941
This book is still a valuable and very hard to find resource with lots of essential information other guides don't provide. This is the one I always looked in first when researching toy cars and trucks I collected. Very detailed, down to providing decal placement and paint schemes. If you are fortunate enough to find a copy, I suggest punching holes and putting it in a 3 Ring binder to preserve, as the original binding is rather weak, and the book WILL be relevant for many years to come.
