5.0 out of 5 stars Torture, September 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Colleen Stan: The Simple Gifts of Life: Dubbed by the Media "The Girl in the Box" and "The Sex Slave" (Paperback)
For 7 years, Colleen was the most unluckiest, most unfortunate, & most tortured person in the world. Seems like even Jesus Christ was tortured about 1%, compared to what she was forced to endure. She was never a threat, not a POW, not a political prisoner. She was hung by her wrists, supporting her weight, blindfolded & gagged, & whipped, dailey. She was electrically shocked, repeatedly, choked unconscious, revived only to be choked again, about 25 times, until Captor got tired. Same thing being drowned, over & over & she was locked in a restricting box, until she was pulled out to be fed, & tortured again. Day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, after year, after year, to total over 7 years. She was raped repeatedly. Forced to sign a slave contract, or "she would wish she had signed". The beatings never stopped, even though she tried to be a good slave, to taper off some of the torture. Any little excuse, & she would be tortured. She was tied to a stretching rig made by her captor, to where her arm was pulled off her shoulder socket. Through violent porn magazines, Captor bought or built every torture device he could think of. In the final year, he told her, "I'm not punishing you, I'm doing this because I like to". Read about what a warped, individual, can inflict, if he can get away with it. I believe Colleen turned off all her emotions, to be able to survive. In the history of mankind, I seriously believe, nobody was tortured 1/4 of the time like she was.

I was spellbound with this story, and amazed by Colleen's strong faith that she could survive by remembering the teachings of her grandmother.

It was apauling to read the defense in the trail after the story. It made me so angry! I too wanted to hug Colleen after I read her story. I just wanted to hug her and give her my love!! I am not a believer in gods and I think that there are many things that we can do in our minds to allow us to survive. I am glad that she did!

5.0 out of 5 stars This has impacted my heart and mind for life, June 24, 2009
This review is from: Colleen Stan: The Simple Gifts of Life: Dubbed by the Media "The Girl in the Box" and "The Sex Slave" (Paperback)
I have not yet read Colleen's book but I have read Perfect Victim about 10 years ago or so. I recently purchased it again and am currently reading it. This is the most horrific story I have ever heard and I am forever changed by it. I have thought of it and talked to many people about it over the years. I wish I could meet this incredible woman and hug her! God is good! She is a living testament to our Living God! God bless you Colleen!
