5.0 out of 5 stars great content
Love the amount of real world applications that come with this book. This book is precise and to the point. Book is designed to go at a fast pace, if you were to work out problems in this book on a daily basis for a couple hours , you would finish the book with ease in about 2 and a half weeks. This book is the easiest read I have encountered as far as math books go. Im...

3.0 out of 5 stars Why so many pictures?
First of all, I was amazed by the number of pictures in the book! Made me think I was reading Time or Newsweek in bed. Unfortunately, all those colors and pictures put me in the same frame of mind. Very distracting.

First of all, I was amazed by the number of pictures in the book! Made me think I was reading Time or Newsweek in bed. Unfortunately, all those colors and pictures put me in the same frame of mind. Very distracting.

Secondly, I found the style and approach rather mechanical. I am returning to Maths after many years, just as a hobby, but was a little surprised and disappointed by the "style change" in mathematics textbooks. But then, I am no expert. The exercises, I felt, were rather poor and uninspiring, making up in quantity what they lacked in quality. I had to turn to older books to find interesting problems to work on.

Also annoying were the numerous advertisements masquerading as "study tips" that the publishers inserted in various places.

Otherwise, a satisfactory book, better than many similar ones.

This book is the easiest read I have encountered as far as math books go. Im definitely sticking with these authors as far as the rest of my math courses go. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. If you are planning to go into calculus, I would advise that you buy the precalc book from the same authors since it has everything in the college algebra book plus trigonometry.

5.0 out of 5 stars You do not have to look any further..., January 8, 2009
This review is from: College Algebra (3rd Edition) (Hardcover)
This book will teach you all school algebra. This is one of the smartest books on the market. Explanations are very easy to understand, plenty of examples, problems provided will take you from very easy to quite difficult level in very gradual way. Unlike other math books authors of this one did not try to show how smart they are but really concentrated on typical student needs. Combine this book with Schaum's Outline book for thousands of more supplementary problems and you do not have to go to school at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars College Algebra-Beecher/Penna/Bittinger, January 29, 2011

This is an excellent Algebra book. Its explanations are straightforward, clear and concise. In my case, I haven't taken a Math course in eleven years, and I can easily understand every chapter in the book.
The exercises have the same level as the example exercises, you won't find any of those tricky exercises that are made for driving you nuts by confusing you with extra data.

All in all, I am very pleased with this book. And I never thought that was possible with an Algebra book!.

Our school has used this book for a long time, and although I mangage to score a 100% in the class, I found this book confusing and not well put together. If it's required for you to have this, get the solutions manual because you'll need it. You must know your intermediate algebra well because it does not take time to explain these steps.
