<>Gets Them Engaged. Keeps Them Engaged

Blitzer's philosophy: present the full scope of mathematics, while always (1) engaging the student by opening their minds to learning (2) keeping the student engaged on every page (3) explaining ideas directly, simply, and clearly so they don't get "lost" when studying and reviewing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A math book with a sense of humor, November 29, 2007
This review is from: College Algebra (4th Edition) (Hardcover)
If you take the time to read the book it is engaging and sometimes funny. The author explains the math very well using real-world situtations. The application problems are great for bringing the concepts home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great text for students who struggle to understand, September 18, 2010

This review is from: College Algebra (4th Edition) (Hardcover)
Blitzer has done a great job breaking down the concepts of College Algebra. The examples are detailed and students are able to get immediate feedback on their understanding after each topic with what he calls "check points". I like the real-world applications for each lesson and the chapter test solutions on CD. I am a teacher using this book in a high school classroom.
