Asher, president of Resume Righters in San Francisco and author of The Overnight Resume ( LJ 3/1/91), tailors this new tome to the needs of college students seeking entry-level positions, to whom he offers his customary brevity, well-modulated sentences, and sound advice about the world of work. Concerning the last, Asher provides straight talk and urges readers to seek career paths instead of a series of jobs, to understand the job functions within an industry in order to define a clear job target, and to become a market-driven product aimed at the needs of employers in terms of specific jobs slated to be filled. Asher emphasizes that "employers buy skills" and advises readers to present their skills as concretely as possible (fluency in written/spoken French is a marketable skill; good communication skills are not). Abandoning the functional resume for the chronological resume and the curriculum vitae, which are better suited for students, Asher's guide will provide needed structure for the job hunt. Highly recommended for both public and academic libraries.

From College to Career by Donald Asher is the most definitive resume book I have ever come across. Using the chapters and the examples you are able to create a resume that is likely to rival those of seasoned professionals. The book provides not only examples of cover letters, resumes, thank you letters, it also provides tips and tricks to getting your foot in the door. If you have to buy one book for resumes or are looking for a book to give you that edge I would highly reccomend From College to Career.
