5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent book for clueless cooks
I love this book! I'm in college, and although I consider myself to be an experienced cook, this book rocks! Peltosaari has included tips for food storage, using leftovers, shelf life, and cooking terms in addition to the many easy recipes. All of the recipes are economical, nutritious, and delicious. If you don't even know how to make scrambled eggs, or if you're on...

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing
Ordered this book for my two granddaughters in college. Was very disppointed when going thru the book. Not many every day meal recipes. Most require a lot of prep time which college students are not going to do. LIke Mac & Cheese - recipe in this book takes and hour and from scratch? they can buy a box & have in 15-20 mins. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great starter cookbook!, February 17, 2004

What a lifesaver to be able to pick up a book for my son going off to college that was exactly right for his needs. He had no idea about cooking terms, shelf life for foods, how to shop, clean up or what equipment to use. I especially liked the idea that there was a list of how to fix mistakes, which we are sure will happen! Hopefully he will read about how to avoid wasting leftovers. This book is perfect, geared for anyone with no previous cooking experience, and is great for anyone on a tight budget or those cooking for one. He liked the minute meals, since he has no patience to wait for food to cook, and would naturally go for frozen or junk food. With this book there is hope he will eat something healthy.

This is a fantastic book; I've had it for many years and I use it all the time. The author makes simple recipes out of totally ordinary ingredients. She finds new twists for common ingredients, that bring out all the flavor and make it exciting to try things out. The recipes are so approacheable, because they're so easy. You'll keep using it, because the food is so tasty.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very very sensible cookbook., January 5, 2005

I love this cookbook. I received it for Christmas and it's great. I've been cooking ever since! I love all of the recipes; it turns bitter vegetables into tasty treats and makes sweets not all that bad. I advise every student planning on going to college to buy this book. It's sucha good book! I just got done making the French Toast, I had no idea French toast contained egg!

Most require a lot of prep time which college students are not going to do. LIke Mac & Cheese - recipe in this book takes and hour and from scratch? they can buy a box & have in 15-20 mins. Tofu sandwich? Really..how many people will fix that? Spinach quiche? How many students will cook that? Lousy book - don't waste your money. Go get Betty Crocker - can't miss with that one for only a few dollars more.

About 7 years ago I came across your "College Cuisine" wirebound book at my local Alpharetta, Georgia (USA) library--I am a mom of 3 with very little cooking skill and found your book to hit on the basics. I am actually from Los Angeles and grew up with a housekeeper who did all of the cooking, so when I got married was I in trouble! We ate a lot of spaghetti let me tell you---

I STILL use your cookbook...I ended up telling the librarian I lost the book and paid for it!!

By the way...I am a much better cook now :) I take your recipes and double or triple depending on who is home.

Thanks for helping me keep good, healthy, simply prepared meals on the table!

I bought this for my grand daughter who is just moving into her first college apartment. I almost kept it myself. Great kitchen tips for the beginner. Fun recipes with basic ingredients. I sent some spices along with the book. She loves it.
