The Most Authentic!,
By A Customer
This review is from: College Fight Songs: Top Ten (Audio CD)
What I love about this collection is that the music is performed by the actual university bands and they are played with more precision and spirit than a 1-band album. You can disagree with the selection (Nebraska and Texas should be added) or the number (only 9 true fight songs), but for what it does offer -- this is the very best.

Top Ten College Fight Songs scores a touchdown!,

WOW. What can I say. The songs featured are great, and being a U of M fan (Go BLUE!!!!), I can recommend this cd to anyone. Adults and children, no matter the age, will be vulnrable to get up and shout for their favorite College team. It makes me want to pick up my remote control, turn on the tv, and flip to ESPN, hoping to catch a game. Get with the school spirit of the cd, and pick up one today. It will definately be worth it!

The fact that the songs are played by the college bands adds a satisfactory touch. Everyone I have played it for loves it, even if some are captive audiences; my grandchildren can't sit still. I would like to find a recording or recordings with the words to the songs, though. I have been trying for a long time without success. I thought I struck home when I got this CD, but I still have not been able to locate singing versions. Also, the Boston College fight song is another I'd like to have along with the Maine Stein Song.

Painful Memories,

My college roommates used to get up at 5 AM for rowing crew and would blast this album to get them pumped. We didn't go to any of the colleges on the CD, by the way. That was a semester from hell. Anyway, whenever we have a reunion someone usually has a copy. Last time we drove past some kids playing touch football and boomed it out the car windows as we drove by. In conclusion, it's a short record but it serves many valuable uses, mostly to annoy unsuspecting people. Check it out!

Question about lyrics,

This review is from: College Fight Songs: Top Ten (Audio CD)
I would like to know if this cd includes a performer singing the lyrics. I'm looking also for a recording which inlude s other fight songs, such as "Whiffenpoof" from Yale and "ramblin' wreck" from Georgia Tech, etc.

correction for "not as promised",
By A Customer
This review is from: College Fight Songs: Top Ten (Audio CD)
On Brave old Army team is not a "military song" as the "music fan" who entitled his review "not as promised." There is such a place as The United States Military Academy, or West Point. It is a college, they have a football team, and their football team has a fight song, which is entitled "On Brave Old Army Team". This also goes with "Anchors Away" which is Annapolis' fight song, but being a die hard Army fan, I hate the Naval Academy and we beat them every year in football (well, maybe not every year, but they still suck). So don't call my beloved school's fight song a military song just because you associate Army to mean only the military, when in this case it means the College that provides our military with its officers of the future.

Fight Songs Need the Words Sung As Well,
By
This review is from: College Fight Songs: Top Ten (Audio CD)
As "A Music Fan" from Pittsburgh states, the Naval Academy and West Point fight songs are not military songs although "Anchors Aweigh" has had verses changed in such a way that it has been adopted by the entire Navy. While a CD of the bands playing these fight songs is nice, it would be better if you could hear people singing the words to them to place them in context. For example, the original first verse of "Anchors Aweigh" is sung as: "Stand Navy down the field, sails set to the sky. We'll never change our course, so Army you steer shy-y-y-y. Roll up the score, Navy, Anchors Aweigh. Sail Navy down the field and sink the Army, sink the Army Grey." The most famous verse to "On, Brave Old Army Team" goes: "We don't play Notre Dame, We don't play Tu-u-lane, We just play Holy Cross, For that's the Fearless Army Way!" Spencer Garrett, USNA Class of 1988

Not as promised,

The title itself is a misnomer. This album contains ten songs, one of which isn't a fight song at all (Mr. Touchdown, USA), and two of which are military songs. I believe that buyers shound expect more for their money.
