5.0 out of 5 stars Useful Book convenient and well organized
This book is essentially a printed version of the detailed information about colleges that's available on the College Board website. Although you can get the same information for free on the website, it's convenient having it in printed and bound form like this, and you can take it with you when you are traveling to visit schools. What this book does not provide is the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good if you like the format
I am doing college counseling this year for the first time. I'm working with this college guide and the Princeton Review guide. The difficult thing to get used to in this guide is that it is arranged by state. That's not necessarily bad, but cumbersome if you're looking up a school and aren't sure where it is located. That one issue keeps my hand reaching for the...

I am doing college counseling this year for the first time. I'm working with this college guide and the Princeton Review guide. The difficult thing to get used to in this guide is that it is arranged by state. That's not necessarily bad, but cumbersome if you're looking up a school and aren't sure where it is located. That one issue keeps my hand reaching for the Princeton Review guide. This guide does have a very good section devoted solely to 2-year schools, which I will find quite useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful Book convenient and well organized, April 8, 2009
This review is from: College Handbook 2009 (Paperback)
This book is essentially a printed version of the detailed information about colleges that's available on the College Board website. Although you can get the same information for free on the website, it's convenient having it in printed and bound form like this, and you can take it with you when you are traveling to visit schools. What this book does not provide is the "inside dope" you get from the Princeton Review or Fisk college guides, which offer subjective information about the feel of the school, the campus culture, how hard the students work, whether it's a party school, and lots of other information that the mere statistics about SAT scores and enrollment can't provide. Still, this is a useful book, and very convenient and well organized.

5.0 out of 5 stars invaluable college selection resource, January 4, 2009
This review is from: College Handbook 2009 (Paperback)
I found this book to be an invaluable resource. It helps to streamline the college selection process by organizing important college data several different ways: first by state and then by college type (4 year, 2-year, private, public). Additionally, it delves into vital statistics about each college such as: number of students, the split between male and female, the percent of applicants admitted, tuition and fees, the application procedures and other college specific data.

The book also offers additional information such as life on campus, housing, packing advice, and a comprehensive glossary of terms that might be foreign to a new college student.

I highly recommend this book for those exploring which college to attend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Helping with the College Search, December 21, 2008
This review is from: College Handbook 2009 (Paperback)
I don't typically write reviews, but I felt it necessary in this case. There is an index in the back of the book that lists every college, in the book, in alphabetical order. I have no complaints, I've used the book extensively at my bookstore and I've come here with the intent of buying it. Don't feel like wasting the gas anymore, hehe.

I purchased the College Handbook 2009 to keep it handy as a reference. The particular copy I purchased was used but it was as good as new after I received and unpacked it! Again, another item I've purchased from Amazon.Com that I am very pleased with!
