1.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE mathbook - take it from a Math tutor, February 11, 2010

This review is from: College Preparatory Mathematics 1: Algebra 1 Version 6.1, Volume 2 (Paperback)
I am a mathematics tutor and recently began working with a bright 8th grader who was struggling with algebra. A few weeks of working with this book and I knew why. They provide terrible "examples" (if you can even call them that). These books do not explain the topics to students but rather lead in with an odd and unclear example. In no place do they clearly define terms or equations and the order of presentation makes no sense. They will have students solve problems, and then several pages later provide an explanation and equation that is used to solve that problem (with no connections made - such as "try problem 7-45 on page 286, then see if the reading on page 290 helps).

Textbooks that clearly explain to students how to solve problems with good examples encourage and facilitate students trying to figure out things on their own. I would dissuade any teacher from using this company's textbooks - they are beyond terrible.
