From the Publisher

A progressive alternative to traditional handbooks, this compact reference for writers offers concise yet thorough coverage of all handbook concerns, with material uniquely organized around the stages of the writing process. Traditional topics on issues of style, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics are presented as "editing" choices students make in the final stage of the writing process. With composition expert Toby Fulwiler's advice on writing, The College Writer's Reference offers the only teachable treatment of the writing process available in a brief handbook. The four–color text design, lay–flat spiral binding, and abundant use of student writing and hand-edited examples all make information easy to find, use, and understand.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful:
5.0 out of 5 stars A very handy desk reference., May 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The College Writer's Reference (Paperback)
I'm giving this a 9 simply because I only skimmed through it a bit before I gave it to my cousin as a gift. Many years ago when I had English Comp, we were given Diana Hacker's "A Writer's Reference." This was a great book, but now I've misplaced it and it's out of print. This book, "The College Writer's Reference," is an excellent substitute, covering fine points on grammar, punctuation, research, style, etc. I simply refuse to get a writer's reference book that doesn't have easy- and quick-to-use tabs separating each section, and this book's got it all. If you write, whether it be formal or informal, get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it so much, I'm replacing my old, ratty copy with the updated version., May 27, 2011
The 1998 edition of this book was a required text for a business writing class I took as an undergraduate. The organization, content, and approach were so helpful, and made so much sense, that it's been my constant companion throughout graduate school, and my professional career.

Today, when I referred to my old text, I noticed it looks tattered and well-used. I'm ordering a replacement for myself, and a copy as a gift to my German colleagues, as I often proof their outgoing communications in English.

This single text has made a noticeable, positive impact, and I am grateful.
