Book Description

Working for the FBI certainly isn’t a “normal” job, but Special Agent Julie Ann Davidson has never encountered a case as personal as this one. Although not officially assigned to the case, Ann and her partner, Patrick Duncan, take up the cause of finding Rachel, Jason, and Emily Collins. As if that task wasn’t enough, Ann and Patrick also have a baffling case of internet thievery to investigate.

Who is Christopher Collins and what about his past is endangering his family? Where are Rachel and the kids being held? Where is God in the midst of chaos? Will Ann and Patrick arrive in time or will they find only pain?

About the Author

These days, Julie C. Gilbert is once again answering to “Miss Gilbert” as a high school chemistry teacher. She also writes YA, science fiction, fantasy, and Christian stories about characters she comes to admire but certainly not envy. How the characters deal with all the triumphs and troubles that come their way is always a fun adventure for her. When not writing or reading or lesson planning, she enjoys sunshine, coffee, long walks, tea, and video games, not necessarily in that order.

Christopher Collins lives a quiet live in Fairview, PA with his wife Rachel and children Jason and Emily. But Chris is not who he says he is as he has a shady past and that past is catching up with him. When his wife and children are kidnapped he knows what he has to do to get them back and keep them alive.

Special Agent Julie Ann Davidson and her partner Patrick Duncan work for the FBI. When Patrick brings Ann a newspaper story about a home explosion that involves an old college friend, Ann knows she has to act. It’s not their case but they end up in the middle of it when the case they are working on- hackers had created the biggest bank robbery in US history, is somehow connected to the Collins case.

Gilbert writes with a fresh pen creating a remarkable story of God’s love, trust and protection. I really enjoyed the depth of these amazing characters whether it’s the agents, the Collins or a minor character such as Ann’s mom the author makes them seem so real and alive. There is plenty of action in a rare storyline for a Christian novel to keep the story rolling especially the shootout in South Dakota. My favorite character is Rachel a strong-willed woman despite her own fears will do whatever she must do to keep her children alive. There is sadness that I won’t spoil but it will break the reader’s heart. But there is plenty of rejoicing in what God does throughout this story as there is a lesson of hope in God’s trust and as a Christian I thought Gilbert writes it amazingly well. Recommendation- yes very highly for Christians seeking stories of God’s love and for the unsaved to experience what God can do in peoples’ lives. I can’t wait to read more from the pen of Julie Gilbert.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling read for 12-16 year-olds! September 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Julie Gilbert is writing in a very competitive field, but boy, does she pull it off. Her style is perfectly-pitched for young teens, with a warm, intimate tone, a gripping storyline that never lets up the suspense, and believable family characters.

There are evil villains and dastardly plots afoot, but not a single word in this novel is misplaced or unfit for kids to read -- in fact, there is a wholesome Christian theme -- I won't call it a "message" because the book is primarily a thriller -- which makes sense of the awful things that happen in real life.

Snappy dialogue, lots of interesting characters and a mystery that holds up to the end make this a thrilling read. My 14 year-old loved it, too!

Highly recommended to kids and parents.

3.0 out of 5 stars AN OK READ September 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
REVIEW

The book wasn't very realistic to me. I don't understand why someone like Chris would let dome one run his life.I believe the book could have used some editing. The titles and subtitles were right on top of the beginning of the chapters. The book to me was just another of the same suspense books that I've read so many of. This book wasn't any different. It didn't stand out. It took me reading the entire book before any of it started to make any sense to me. I believe the characters needed more development. Maybe cut down on a few of the things that were taking place and develop the others more. One thing I really didn't understand was that if Rachel and Ann were such good friends, why was Ann not recognized by Rachel right off the bat?

The story is basically well written. I just believe it needs more development and the addition of some reality. The book may be fiction, but that little touch of reality always attracts the reader. Sometimes we think people are one way and they turn out not to be. They really aren't who we think they are. This happens a lot in real life. Secrets, sometimes are kept to protect loved ones and sometimes secrets are kept to protect the one who has the secret. I believe the book was just a little too much push on religion and God. This is just my own personal opinion. Overall it's a fair read. I feel it could be improved.

I was given a complimentary copy of THE COLLINS CASE from the author Julie Gilbert for my view of the book. No other compensation took place.

3.0 out of 5 stars A story with a split personality. May 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This book seemed to me to have two distinct plots. There is the storyline of a family's kidnapping and the efforts by the FBI to free them; then there is the gospel message. Granted, this is my first journey into Christian writing, so perhaps this is typical. However, I found the insertion of the religious messages not well meshed with the overall storyline -- the dialog (internal and spoken) seemed forced and too heavy-handed. I think that if Julie could have removed some of the Christian messages the two plots could have meshed and the story would be enhanced. Overall, the plot was good, and I would say that it would be appropriate for YA readers.
