5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for an 80's buddy/cop cheezfest!
I first saw this movie about 7-8 years ago on HBO or something. Actually I only caught half of it, but it was hilarious. I remembered a couple of the lines and 'used' them over the next few months, and I eventually told this freind of mine about it. A couple years after that, that friend found it used on VHS, and he brought it over. We watched it, and again is was...

3.0 out of 5 stars Won't Win No Oscars, But It'll Do!!
You must have come across some movies that are so bad they're good, but COLLISION COURSE is not among them. In fact it's a pretty decent attempt at the buddy cop genre with a number of pluses. Top of that list is the pairing of Pat Morita and Jay Leno. Pat does his by-then familiar Japanese-fish-out-of-American-water routine that never seemed to lose steam for him. Jay is...

We watched it, and again is was hilarious. He left it at my place, and I just recently dug it out and watched it again. Leno plays a resourscful quick-witted wise-cracking middle class detective in Detriot PD's Robbery Division and Morita is a respectable Japanese detective. As mentioned, the story is lame yet funny, and several scenes involving Leno, Morita, and the pair together are hilarious. One liners a-plenty, too. Not to be taken very seriously, this is a funny flick.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious Combination, May 31, 2005
This review is from: Collison Course [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Jay Leno and Pat Morita. What more can I say? It is such a weird combo. The jokes are stale and the action isn't all that action-packed, but the "cheese factor" are enough to get 4 stars in my book. That said, you probably wouldn't watch this more than once unless you were on something.

I love this movie!! I thought that it was a pretty good movie of the 1980's, and that Jay Leno, and Pat Morita did a good job together. This movie always makes me feel good after watching it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leno coulda been a bigger actor...., August 13, 2006
This review is from: Collision Course (DVD)
This movie has been one of my favorite "guilty pleasures", and I recently bought it on DVD. Why? Well, if you're a Pat Morita fan, you'll like the movie. Even if he isn't playing Mr. Miyagi.

What you WILL enjoy is Jay Leno's rather fun take on a Detroit cop. And his observations on what Americans will and won't tolerate is accurate and funny. (Car alarm sounds --"Turn that **** off"!

It does seem as if Jackie Chan saw this and decided to remake it as the "Rush Hour" series. I liked this one better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like a cop buddy movie... but much better, October 21, 2001

I saw this movie recently. It is now 2 hours later, my head still hurts from laughing. The plot was soo awful, the jokes were soo bad, but what I didn't count on were:

1. the 2 scenes before and after the movie that had Pat and Jay posing (that caused more than enough laughter)

2. The kick through the windshield that decapitated the evil-doer.

This movie is about 20 times better than the Rush Hour series, and my copy even came with a disclamer saying if you didn't like the movie, send certificate to HBO. While I considered it, the date you had to send it in was January 1991 (which also caused wackiness to ensue).

In the midst of sadness of the death of the legendary Pat Morita. I loved this movie! This was "Rush Hour" before it became a hit. Jay Leno and Pat Morita make a wonderful team in this movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars jay leno can act, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Collision Course (DVD)
this is a film i never knew existed until my brother found a vhs copy at a rental place going out of business. i knew pat moritia was a good actor having loved him in happy days and midway. but leno ?? he is my favorite late nite host after johnny carson. i knew he'd been in a few films..but to my knowledge it was always cameos, playing himself. this movie is sooo very good. it is the perfect odd couple buddy cop film. if you like rush hour , and 48 hours, ect., this film will make you laugh, cheer, and be glad you watched it.

Jay is surprisingly effective as the bachelor/maverick/wisecracking cop. The two actors work well together.
Casting is another major plus here. You will see many familiar faces doing fine jobs with their familiar roles. Ernie Hudson (GHOSTBUSTERS) plays Leno's partner; Chris Sarandon (FRIGHT NIGHT) is the powerful villain; Tom Noonan (THE LAST ACTION HERO) and Randall "Tex" Cobb (familiar villain from many movies) are the quirky henchmen; even Danny Kamekona, who antagonized Pat Morita in KARATE KID 2, is here to muck things up!
The Detroit scenery is interesting. You get to see the slums all the way up to a fancy hotel.
If you like car chases, shoot-outs, and punch-ups, this movie will satisfy you, also. COLLISION COURSE is a familiar type of movie. By now its formula has been used countless times, in some cases with great skill leading to great results. It's not one of those, but it's certainly not a poorly-made buddy-cop movie, either. Approach it with lower expectations and you will find COLLISION COURSE a pleasant evening's entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars The original Rush Hour!, March 3, 2011

Better than Rush Hour in my opinion. East meets West as Pat Morita (Tokyo police detective) and Jay Leno (Detroit detective) team up to find a stolen auto turbo-charger thats to be sold on the American auto market in Detroit. A classic 80s movie with the music, acting, and screen presence. Kinda corny, kinda bad, no remarkable stunts or award-winning acting, but the movie gives a good vibe of fun. Good entertainment. I recommend it.

Pat Morita and Jay Leno star in this 1989 action-comedy.
A Japanese detective and a Detroit cop team up to find
a stolen engine prototype. This isn't bad and Pat and
Jay were great together. I think "Rush Hour" kind of
bit off this and this dvd has decent picture and
sound, but no extras. I recommend this.
