Here is a text on theoretical plasma physics, the science of extremely hot gases which make up most of the universe and are used extensively in fusion energy research. The authors treat a topic at the heart of this subject, transport theory, which predicts the electrical and thermal properties of the plasma. This comprehensive book is directed at graduate students in physics and professional research physicists, in particular, fusion energy scientists and space physicists.

Editorial Reviews

Review

'... invaluable for space-plasma and astrophysical theorists who have a background knowledge of plasma theory and who wish to understand an important strand of laboratory theory that will have vital implications in future for their fields.' Eric Priest, The Observatory

'It is a very welcome addition, indeed asset, to the subject.' Journal of Plasma Physics

'It seems that the authors know how to build a bridge between a manual and a research book. This monograph will be useful to advanced graduate students and scientists that are working in plasma physics.' Zentralblatt MATH

Book Description

This is a textbook on theoretical plasma physics, which is the science of extremely hot gases which make up most of the universe and which are used extensively in fusion energy research. This book treats a topic at the heart of this subject, so-called transport theory, which predicts the electrical and thermal properties of the plasma. It is the most comprehensive book in its field, and is directed at graduate students in physics and professional research physicists, in particular fusion energy scientists and space physicists.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book on an advanced topic, June 30, 2008

(REAL NAME)
I am a fifth year graduate student studying astrophysical plasma physics (in particular, magnetic reconnection). For books of its type, "Collisional Transport in Magnetized Plasmas" has been surprisingly clear and full of lots of good information. The book is very well-organized. It is focused on laboratory plasmas (especially those of fusion interest), but the first few chapters are general enough to be of interest to astrophysical plasma physicists. If you can't find the Braginskii review article from the 60s in your library, this is a good substitute and contains most of the relevant information. If you do research in this area or need a reference on this topic, I highly recommend this book.
