Book Description

0471828483 978-0471828488 April 1988 1
A concise review of the concepts and techniques applicable to emulsions and dispersions useful to industrial chemists and chemical engineers. Describes a wide range of topics under the headings of particulates, interfaces, stability of dispersions, and dispersed-phase systems. Also covers recently-developed computer-based methods which offer fast, precise measurements, e.g. particle-size distributions by quasielastic light scattering, dilational surface elasticity from the damping of ripples, and foam stability by the automatic recording of small pressure differences.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Reference Book that Stomps the Subject!, August 12, 2010
This review is from: Colloidal Systems and Interfaces (Hardcover)
Ok, so you're reading this because you are an upper level chemistry or engineering major, right? And as smart as you are you want to make sure that you're not wasting your parents' money (or are you already out in the work force paying for your classes?). Either way, I need to assure you that purchasing this book is money well spent!

I purchased the first printing of this book in Boston when Dr.'s Ross and Morrison were conducting a workshop at the annual American Chemical Society conference. The workshop was geared for people already in corporate research and familiar with the subject. I worked in research but was not familiar with the subject. Believe when I tell you that all the hand waving in the world by both instructors was not getting me closer to understanding the subject.

After the workshop I took the book home and read about what was previously discussed that day. The book was very well thought out and clearly explained. My particular areas of interest were Particle Size Measurements by Light Scattering and Interfacial Tension. I really felt better about the subjects after reading the book. I understood the mathematic derivations, which progressed in short steps as well as the text descriptions. The authors I felt provided a good balance of both. I referred to this book often when trying to explain the principles behind my experimental data.

I wish I had a chance to read the book before attending the workshop. Then I would have felt more prepared. Great Job, you guys--can't wait for the sequel!
