5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Dialogues, December 1, 2009
By

I own many resources for learning French and I find M. Moys's set to be a great resource for practicing your listening skills. The dialogues start off pretty easy and progress through both discs, with the last few dialogues being at full conversational speed and even muffle some words like they are actually spoken by native speakers. You get a chance to learn most of the verb tenses, grammar points, and some good vocabulary. I found both the primary male and female speakers to be enjoyable and the subjects of the dialogues to be interesting.

Even though this set starts off teaching the alphabet and numbers, it moves along at a quick clip. I think it is a great tool for the high-intermediate student. Make sure you have your finger on the pause button!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely horrible - Will Make You Fall Asleep!, December 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Colloquial French: A Complete Language Course (Colloquial Series) (Hardcover)
I have studed a lot of french conversational books and cassettes - this book is by far the worst. Actually, horrible. The book alone makes no sense as it jumps (chapter to chapter) from basic grammar and converational information to advanced grammar and conversational information and back again to basic - with the result being a mix of information that is useless. The two cassettes are a real joke as the speakers speak as though they are speed reading (reading they are - simply reading with no tone of voice whatsoever) and it is virtually impossible to keep up or understand plus it puts you to sleep it is so boring. In one conversation a social worker is asking a single mother about her day and the hours she and her young son keep - well the mother replies at a speed no human being would use unless she were reading from a pre-written script!!! It is not "conversational" at all - it is "speed speaking" and demands "speed listening". I would definitely not waste any money on this. The "Living Lanugage" or "Teach Yourself" kits are far superior and you don't need a speed listening course or have to listen to a boring fellow with an English accent who will only quickly put you to sleep.
