4.0 out of 5 stars Colombia golden age the real deal
These sound like the original artists, hits from the 60s and 70s that I used to hear at latin parties with all kinds of south americans, not just colombians, who considered a lot of these "classics" for party music. It has a good variety, moving from salsa to cumbia to other rhythms. . .fun. I think colombian music is way underappreciated in northamerica; we mostly hear...

3.0 out of 5 stars the golden age of discos fuentes
This CD covers a lot of ground in this type of music however, the producers choice of titles is somewhat weak for party music. This CD is full of music that you have to sit down to enjoy. After i bought this CD i noticed that it was compiled on soundway records based in England. After putting this CD on at a party it crashed with a dud! So if you enjoy sitting back and...

It has a good variety, moving from salsa to cumbia to other rhythms. . .fun. I think colombian music is way underappreciated in northamerica; we mostly hear only NY/PR salsa if any. I like to listen to it while driving or doing something active but I don't think the mix has quite the right flow to be a fantastic party record on its own.

Wow, this is a great record! I was hipped to it on The World radio show and bought it as an adjunct to my recent interest in Fania. This may be the best thing to come from Colombia since Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Discos Fuentes offered the best of the local musical styles by top-flight musicians. Classic and ahead of it's time, it's a challenge to figure the exact moment of each impeccably well recorded track. These guys may be South America's answer to Atlantic Records.

I anxiously await volume 2. Please!

People always dance to this CD at parties. Even those who never dance tap their feet. We listen to this CD over and over again in the car. We heard about the CD on NPR, and the thirty seconds of the one song that they played was enough to convince us that we needed the CD, and it did not disappoint.

I bought the CD because it reminds me of my father. This was the music that he loved and grew up with. I still have his old records and it is great to find some of the old Colombian music on CDs. Que Viva Colombia!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars You will not be bored by any track, July 22, 2008
This review is from: Colombia!: The Golden Age of Discos Fuentes (Audio CD)
I bought this album on a whim after it caught my eye on a record store shelf. And then I listened to it for 3 months straight! Every song is so different. The layers of sounds are so unique and blow you away along with making you want to move. The liner notes are excellently written and the album covers of the Golden Age are priceless. I'm not one for World music so this is kind of a big deal for me. Every time I play it at a party, friends demand copies. I'm going to go listen to it right now...

I bought this cd without knowing much about it; I just liked the sound clips. After listening to it many times I can now say the purchase was wise. This is excellent music making that makes you want to dance and puts a smile on your face.

If you have overdosed on POP music trends and the Grammys just makes you sick then you owe it to yourself to check out this music. Real talent and real entertainment in a golden age style.

Sometimes I feel like Alexander the Great (no, not that way- in music) looking upon his empire and crying because he has nothing left to conquer: I've ravaged about six different genre kingdoms and it gets tougher to find music with which I'm not familiar. That changed on Saturday when this Disco Fuentes Cd, The Golden Age Of Discos Fuentes - The Powerhouse Of Colombian Music arrived from Amazon. I'll have to admit that I've always considered Cumbia music as having less depth than Caribbean music-like Strauss to Beethoven, if I can be so gross- a fun dance music with humorous lyrics, but somewhat repetitive with few examples of instrumental virtuosity. This disk changed my mind. I've spent a week on it and I still slip it into my Clarion.
