I did so much research on shaving brushes and soaps before buying this for my husband for Father's Day but never read a review that talked about how it imporoved a person's skin.

My husband has oily skin as well as adult acne. Six months of Acutane in 2001, ProActive and all the drug store stuff was never enough to give him lasting results. It never occured to us (or the doctor for that matter) that all he need to do was change the way he shaved, which included his Mach 3 and Edge Gel. It's been less than a month since I've given this to him and the results have been amazing.

He loves the soap and the brush. The brush loses almost no hairs and has a nice weighty handle. It comes with a twin-blade shaver, which he doesn't use (he loves his Mach 3), but the whole thing looks nice on our counter.

Getting back to his skin....whatever acne he gets is minimal, very tiny in size and goes away quickly, and while I wouldn't say he no longer has oily skin, he's not the oil slick he used to be either. Considering he's having results like this in the dead of summer, I can only imagine how much better it will get when the weather cools down.

He's also changed his shaving method. Rather than just the initial lathering, he lathers twice - on the first he shaves down with the hairs - on the second he shaves against them. The shave lasts a lot longer so he doesn't need to shave as often, which is also a big help, as he now has a lot less shaving irritation.

Tired of shaving cream and gel, I decided to improve my mornings with an enjoyable shave. This set is both functional and handsome. My wife loves the crome on the vanity. I love being able to apply the shaving soap with the badger brush. The razor is perfectly shaped and more easily handled than the typical drug store brands. As for the shaving soap, it seems to last forever. It has a faint likeable aroma and applies most easily. The soap comes in it's own container so a mug is not required. Best of all, the shave is excellent. Hot lather and extremely sharp blades do make a difference.

This brush and razor set looks good, is heavy enough to hold razor and brush without easy flip-over. Both razor and brush are weighted and have a good feel. One recommendation: The razor needs to be upgraded to a 3 or 5 blade. It comes with a 2 blade which may be okay for some users, but I believe a more modern razor would make this product even more attractive. The order was processed and shipped in a timely manner. Order arrived ahead of schedule. I would highly recommend this product.

I'm still getting used to the glycerin-based soap as a shaving cream, and using a brush. What I have experienced is more redness and irritation, but less break outs, a closer shave, and other than the redness/irritation or burns, better skin tone. The irritation is predominately from getting used to being more careful and using a different razor and cream etc..., This has gotten progressively better. It's important to use a non-comodogenic lotion and/or anti-septic product of some sort, after shaving as well. Coral Skin Food is a good after-shave alternative to the alcohol based drug store brands, for instance.

I'm slowly being weened off the drug store triple blades and using the included metal razor, but you will need to buy replacement blades immediately, as the included blade is cheap and fades quickly after a shave or two. The stand is stylish, the blade has a nice angle and weight, but slips in your hands if they're wet, and is a tad small. I have to say the brush is a bit prickly also, but it works well, I much prefer it to not using one, and regret not experimenting with different shaving methods earlier in life.

So if nothing else I would recommend this for the stand and brush, and the Conk shaving soap isn't bad either. It ends up being a very clean system, leaving me with hardly any clean up also. And thank God I'm no longer spending ridiculous amounts of money on plastic, wasteful, over-priced chain drug store blades, and shaving cream. The soap lasts forever, literally months and months, and it costs $5! (as do 10 of the double Conk blades - which are also high quality).

For whatever reason this system just makes shaving less of an irritating hassle, more of a simple ritual, and is ultimately just better for your face and skin in the long term. And well it's more eco friendly and that's always a good thing.
