About the Author

Bobbie Kalman is the author and publisher of more than one hundred and fifty quality children's library books. In the wilderness Temporary homes The first colonial homes were simple temporary shelters. Some shelters, called dugouts, were just a hole dug into the side of a hill. The roof was the ground above them! At first, the colonists did not have time to build permanent homes. They had to grow and harvest crops and build a barn for their animals before winter arrived.
