Praise for previous editions: "Without question the best survey text of Latin American history -- either colonial or national period -- that has ever been written." --James Schofield Saeger, Lehigh University

"A well-written, engaging text that does a fine job of linking individual experience to broader themes and analysis. . . . The book keeps getting better and better." --Ward Stavig, University of South Florida

Format: Paperback
This book is very useful for general information on Colonial Latin America. It gives the reader insight into the Colonial experience and the way that this experience influenced Amerindian cultures and the way in which the Spaniards had perceived those native groups. It also gives and overview of the Amerindian experience in the Spanish Caribbean.

I also would say that this book is helpful to students who are now being introduced to this time period, and to those who have an already good grasp of the themes and issues of this time period and colonial group. I would definitely advise anyone who wants a clear and succinct overview of that time period, that they would be wise to consult this book.

Purchased this because it was a textbook used in my Latin American history class. It is just like any other textbook, informative but can be boring at times. A good book to be used as a textbook only.
