We were happy to find the Felting Needle Starter Kits on Amazon as the local Walmart doesn't seem to support the textile art of needle felting so much. These are well-designed introductions to craft / hobbies, which can fire the imagination as well as inspire critical thinking (choice) and observation. For the price, a starter kit is a great way to try a new art form without spending massive amounts of money. Working with wool roving is actually an amazing, almost magical experience because with just a little effort, patience, and careful placement, one can make something quite beautiful and sturdy without all the mess / fuss that other crafts like painting, pottery, carving, quilting, scrap-booking often create.

PLEASE NOTE: Felting needles are extremely sharp, and they require attention, respect, and careful handing to avoid injury. They can break, and it is handy to have an extra set on hand, especially for the new learner who is just discovering how to work the wool properly. This is NOT a product for very young children, for children with poor hand / eye coordination / dexterity, for children with short attention spans, or for children who are emotionally immature. With proper guidance and instruction, responsible and mature tweens and teens might find this an exciting option for artistic expression. Adult learners can also find some rewarding moments with a starter kit. There's some stress relief in repeated needle punching! LOL :)

The Felting Needle activity is a great way to spend a rainy, cold afternoon. Be sure to find a shoe box or other container to keep your needle felting items. Ensure that your needles are secured / protected in some fashion and will not jab when the hands reach into the box.

Update: since posting this review, I've purchased the Mackinac Moon Open Top Craft Tote from an Amazon seller. This craft bag is much better storage than shoe box! LOL

This little kit has everything you need to get started needle felting. Exactly what the description says. There are two project ideas included, and there is enough wool for quite a few more projects. The projects are 2 dimensional.

I was very happy when I received this, but when I opened it up I found that the colors of the roving were not as they are in the picture. Still, I had great time using the needles and the styrofoam board, and used some wool yarn instead of the roving because the package didn't come with the color I wanted. But when I was nearly done with a project the day I got the kit, my needle broke. Perhaps I was using too much force, so it may not be the fault of the needle. Later, I tried needle felting the roving, and found that the yellow was much finer and more straight than the other colors and didn't want to felt very much. I also found that most of the other colors had little bits of straw and grass that hadn't been cleaned out after shearing. Overall, I think this is a good beginner project, but those looking for replacements for used or broken felting items may want to look elsewhere.

I just got started in needle felting. I didn't use any of the projects that came with the kit. I managed to make a little albino kangaroo with a baby in her pouch :3. As someone else mentioned, some of the wool seems to have different textures. Some colors seem to be easier to work with than others.

The quality and the price of the product were good. It has all the necessary parts needed to make the advertised items.
The service was good and the delivery was quick.

This is a good beginners kit for sure.

I do wish the description told you what size needles you are ordering(the ones I got were all the same size) and what kind of wool would be sent (it seems to differ between the colors), but I needed a way to get new needles with one day shipping, and this was the best possible option. I was not disappointed!

If you want to try needle felting this is a good kit to buy. The price is excellent and gives you what you need to do some simple needle felting. For some reason is is listed as a toy. This is not a toy the needles are dangerous.

I really liked this kit. It was easy to use and easy to understand.

In the kit I got, only one of the balls of "wool" seemed to be 100% wool. The rest act very much like an extremely cheap synthetic blend and are very long, hairy, and difficult to impossible to work with. OK for a beginner.
