3.0 out of 5 stars Book for genealogists about colonial land, May 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Colonial petitions for land resurveys: Some land warrants, 1753-1774, caveats of land warrants, 1767-1773 in North Carolina
This book contain abstracts of resurveys of land, abstracts of land warrants, and loose warrants issued by the governor. Resurveys were usually performed because of a dispute about the original survey; some details of the dispute are included. Land warrants were issued to authorize the survey of land prior to a grant being issued. Fees had to be paid after the warrant before a grant issued; so there may not be a grant for every warrant. But the warrant does indicate a person was interested in a piece of property in North Carolina. The warrants issued by the governor were for a variety of reasons. These warrants could be used to buy land, pay taxes, or (sometimes) pay the grocery bill.
