This review is from: Colonialism, Tradition, and Reform: An Analysis of Gandhi's Political Discourse (Paperback)
Bhikhu Parekh's Colonialism, Tradition, and Reform is an important study that with depth examines Gandhi's still topical thinking. With intense concentration on the prediaments and quandaries faced by Gandhi, and an ability to interpret for a contemporary readership the settings in which he was working, Parekh's is a fresh, insightful, and tightly written analysis that should be read by anyone who has pondered the continuing relevance of Gandhi's thinking on political power, popular mobilization, and nonviolent action. Parekh's real skill is in contextualizing Gandhi's confrontations with the dilemmas that confronted him upon his return to India, and in probing the complexities of his views on contentious issues such as violence and untouchability.
