STILL the best...,

This game, after so many years, remains the finest space combat shooter on any console. It's depth and variety rival even the PC greats. The branching story and hours of background material provide more of an experience rather than a console game. The cutscenes and voice acting are excellent, and the pace is just right! For those who have never played this wonderful game, I highly recommend it!

The best space-combat game for playstation,

For while, it seemed like Psygnosis was unstoppable. Fresh off of the success of the awesome Wipeout games came this, one of the great console games of all time. For starters, in the presentation and production values department this game is just plain awesome. Not ONLY does it feature some of the best graphics ever to be found on playstation, not ONLY does it feature a branching story and changes based on your successes or failures, and not ONLY does it feature some of the best menus, menu sounds, music, and in-game cinemas to be found in any game for any system ever... it also features a built-in encyclopedia of all the star systems, planets, and ships in the game complete with voice-narration! This game offers great challenge, great gameplay, flawless presentation, tight controls, and a great storyline. The music is so good I wish there were a soundtrack. This game is everything a great game shoud be, and fans of classic games owe it to themselves to buy this one A.S.A.P., especially if they like space-combat games.

This game involves a lot of depth. The story is interwoven though mission briefings, in-game action and all sorts of background found on the games "database." The game tells the story of violent civil war between an evil Colonial Empire and the League of Free Worlds. The story is amazing with insight into what may very well happen if we continue to abuse our natural resources. The game itself is just as good as the plot if not better. On a closing note, remember that the story allows you to fail missions and even loose the war! There are SIX ENDINGS!

This game is great! The graphics, sound, and plot are amazing. The complaints are completely unfounded, because anyone who can learn to play any game can learn to play this one. The game is even presented in Dolby Pro Logic surround! This game is well worth the price, and so are the other two.

I'm a 12 year old gamer from Ashland, Ky, and I liked playing this game. I never really got into any other flight - sims but I LOVE reading (and writing) Scifi. I totally recommend this to anyone who likes star wars or star trek. I'm a slow gamer, and I am going to buy the game sometime, but I've rented it. From what I've seen, It's wicked awesome!

This game is wonderful. The graphics, sound and overall presentation make it seem like you're in the thick of a galactic war. The ships fly very fluidly and the action is fast and furious. Oh yeah, in regard to the complaint another reviewer about your first ship being too slow, it's war live with it! The inferiority of your side's spacecraft is made even more obvious when you get in to battles with ships hundreds of times larger than you. You are freedom fighters after all.

If you're into realistic space flight sims, then this is the game for you.Smooth ship control,a fantastic choice of weapons and an intriguing plot that might actually give you something to think about make for a fantastic game. The ships are kinda slow, but the gameplay is so fantastic and so realistic, you dont't notice it.If that's not enough to convince you keep in mind that they don't go into production on a movie based on a video game if it's a crappy game to begin with.

This may just be the most impressive PSX game ever. When I first saw the game, the graphics blew me away. I never thought a Playstation could handle graphics that impressive. If you do buy Colony Wars, I suggest you also buy the sequel, Colony Wars: Vengence. If you buy them both, you'll have a better understanding of the entire story.

The BEST Game That Hardly Anyone Played!,

I was sitting around playing a PS3 game reminiscing of games from the good old days of the original PlayStation. I started to think of many of the franchises that started on the system that still produce sequels today and realized Colony Wars was never continued on the PS2, PS3 or even the PSP. Why? It is one of my favorite series of games of all time and just thinking about it made me want to play them again, so I bought them used off of Amazon.Wasn't sure what to expect when I popped this game in for the first time in almost 14 years, but I was honestly blown away by how well this game holds up today. Usually games from that era don't age well, and a game that you remember looking and sounding awesome after 10+ years, will make you wonder why you ever thought that. But Colony Wars is exactly how I remembered it. Play it on a PS3 with the Full Screen and Smoothing options on and it helps. This game is the complete package. Everything from the Story, Graphics, Sound and Gameplay is excellent. Sure the story is same old Sci-Fi fare, evil empire and the good guys rebellion and you are a nameless pilot fighting for the rebellion, but the story is driven along through a series of cutscenes that are well done and narrated by a cool James Earl Jones sound-alike. The story is non-linear as well, meaning, you do well and complete a series of missions, you will head down a path closer to victory, however, do bad and go down another path and you do bad there, you will be treated to one of 6 ending cutscenes. One of the very few games that ever did anything like this. So dont worry if you fail a mission, the game will go on, just don't fail too many in a row. It does borrow from other Sci-Fi shows and movies, but it doesnt plaguerize as one other reviewer here on Amazon put it. Obviously, the developers were Star Wars and Star Trek fans for many of the ships look very similar to ships from those Sci-Fi series. The Battle Platforms, as they are called, even look like mini Death Stars. The graphics and sound aren't up to todays standard, obvioulsy, but for a PS1 game, it is one of, if not the best looking games on PS1. I was too young to appreciate the different graphical effects the game utilizes when I first played it. It was a game of firsts. It was the first game I ever played on a console to utilize a real time shadow and lighting engine. If a mission is played near a sun (which most of them are), real time shadows were cast on your cockpit and the other ships depending on the position oo the sun. This was the first game to ever feel like I was blinded by an in game sun as well. When you shoot your weapons, the light is reflected off the cockpit. The weapons, explosions and background all have very cool effects and the colors are bright. I also seem to be at a much higher resolution than other PS1 games. As for the sound, it has one of the best soundtracks of any PS1 game. Think Star Wars again, the music fits perfectly for a Space Epic like this. Explosions are awesome and the voice acting is top notch as well from the pre-mission briefs to the in-game voice overs. The only weak sounds are the lasers, wish they had a little more punch to them. The gameplay is definately more sim oriented, dont think this is your usual arcadey space shooter that were numerous at the time. This rivals many of the PC greats such as the X-wing Series or the Wing Commander Series. The 70+ (yes, 70+!) missions all are varied and you will never feel like you are doing the same kind of thing over and over again. There are many different kinds of craft that populate the game and huge (HUGE!) capital ships that will battle each other. You will definatly feel like you are in an epic sci-fi war. I could go on and on about the gameplay, but i'll just say this: If you are a fan of flight games or space shooters, this is a no brainer. Get it! Once you reach an ending, don't forget that there are 5 other endings as well, go back and try to do better and open up a different branch of the game. That in itself gives the game great replay value. There is also an "Encyclopdedia" if you will, where you can look at all the craft and solar systems complete with history of every planet and most moons within each system that is recorded for you to listen and gives alot of background into the story. May not be everyones cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. In conclusion, I wish this franchise continued into the next generation of consoles. Sony really dropped the ball with this one. I could only imagine what Colony Wars could have been on PS2, then again on PS3! Now I will be onto it's sequel, Colony Wars: Vengeance. Look out for my review on that in the near future...
