Book Description

Featuring more than 400 full-color illustrations, this text is a unique combination of a color atlas of clinical ophthalmology and a quick reference guide to how the eye is affected by systemic diseases. In 159 chapters, the book covers every systemic disorder that has significant ocular complications. Each disorder is presented in a separate brief chapter, beginning with a general overview of the disorder, then a review of its systemic manifestations, followed by a review of its ocular manifestations, full-color photographs, and a suggested reading bibliography for the reader who wants more extensive information about that disease entity.

This review is from: Color Atlas of the Eye in Systemic Disease (Hardcover)
an excellent book combining the color atlas with a quick reference in tabular format that's including the most of the major and commom systemic diseases as well as others less common with ocular manifistations.... I recommend this book with the other excellent book ( systemic diseases of the eye ) by Jack Kanski

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Atlas with a few faults, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Color Atlas of the Eye in Systemic Disease (Hardcover)
There are only a few books published with the specific focus on systemic disease. This is an excellent atlas to complement the kanski book. The book is very comprehensive in terms of its scope. The text is very good with descriptions, in an outline format, of both primary ocular and systemic findings. The book does not highlight which are the key findings or most important features, however. The other problem is that the book does not use commonly used disease names like "gyrate atrophy" instead of hyperornithemia.

The pictures in general are very good, with several pictures per disease. However, in some cases, those pictures are just some histological photo and in other cases, they included diseases with no photos (guess they couldnt find one, but it is an "ATLAS").

Overall, I think this is an excellent supplementary reference book with many rarer and interesting diseases included. For those interested in systemic diseases as it relates to ophthalmology, I recommend this book, the kanski book, and another book called diseases of the eye and skin.
