5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite spoons too!
I bought these spoons when my son first started solids (around 5 1/2 months). At the same time I also bought the gerber infant spoons. At first, I felt these spoons were too big, so I used the gerber spoons most of the time. Within 6 weeks I had switched to using THESE spoons most of the time. 3.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly fine, but not my favorite
I ordered a whole bunch of spoons recently, figuring that baby spoons are cheap enough that I can afford to become an expert on them.

This spoon is fine, but not great.

Longest handle of any spoon I've found
Plastic changes color when hot (very sensitive)

I ordered a whole bunch of spoons recently, figuring that baby spoons are cheap enough that I can afford to become an expert on them.

This spoon is fine, but not great.

Pros:

Longest handle of any spoon I've found
Plastic changes color when hot (very sensitive)
I prefer metal to plastic spoons in all cases
My spoons have not yet stained, even with carrots (though I wouldn't care if they did) I don't know if this is variable from batch to batch of carrots, or if I've just been lucky, but I don't see staining yet.

Cons:

I think the head is a little too big/awkward for baby's first meals. Maybe better when they're older.
I get hand-fatigue by the end of a feeding using this spoon.

It's that last point that kills it for me. Holding the spoon for too long is uncomfortable. I prefer the meal-mates spoons for comfort and all-around ease of use.

At first, I felt these spoons were too big, so I used the gerber spoons most of the time. Within 6 weeks I had switched to using THESE spoons most of the time. Now at 8 months, I feel that the gerber spoons are too small, and I only use them if none of my Sassy spoons are clean. It is crazy how fast they grow and change. These spoons have held up well to many, many washes in the dishwasher. The color change is a bit sensitive- but I'd rather be too cautious then give something that's too hot to my little guy. Great spoons- I'd buy them again in a second.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite spoons., May 22, 2007

I love these spoons. They are really great if you are using stage 3 foods and feeding from the jar. The color changing was great for when I first started feeding solids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful to know when food is too hot, April 23, 2007

Especially for the first feedings, when you're not sure how long to heat the food, it's helpful to see immediately that food is too hot when the color changes on these spoons. Unlike another reviewer, I didn't find the spoons too big. They hold more than traditional spoons, so I don't serve 'heaping' spoonfuls - I use more level spoonfuls for my six-month old.

4.0 out of 5 stars Top Rack Only, October 3, 2011

These are really nice spoons. The handle is long and easy to grasp. The color changing tips work really well. They do seem maybe a little too sensitive, but with everything else going on, it is good piece of mind to know that the food isn't too hot for your litte one. The big drawback is that they are dishwasher safe, but top rack only. Come on, really? Who has spots for spoons on the top rack? We have occasionally put a basket on the top rack to hold them, but it takes up a lot of room. So, we mostly wash these by hand. Not a huge deal, but it would be simpler to just stick them in the dishwasher with all the other silverware.

1.0 out of 5 stars BPA Free or Not?, August 3, 2011

I'm a grandmother, so what do I know? But everyone says BPA free is good and Sassy stuff is a mixed bag - some products are and some are not. This one is not, apparently. Consumers must be vigilant as more and more of our products are coming from countries that have no regulations or scruples about how a product is made or what it is made of. More than ever, buyer beware. I sent this purchase back rather than take a chance.

I love these spoons. I used them for my 2 grandsons and I just love them. I really like the extra long handle plus the fact that they let you know when the food is to hot. They are the only baby spoons that we use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Spoons for Daddy's Hands, February 21, 2009
By
D Critique "d_critique" (Boston, Massachusetts USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Color Change Infant Feeding Spoons - 5 pk (Baby Product)
When my baby first started eating solid foods, we had the wonderful task of selecting her first spoons. Although I initially leaned toward Gerber because of the brand name, I am glad I made the right choice by selecting the Sassy spoons. Two reasons I selected Sassy over the other spoons, including Gerber, first, the spoon changes to white if the food is too hot. Although I test the food myself when I warm it up, this feature provides additional reassurance. Second and most importantly, the length of the handle was longer than the other 6+ months spoons. The spoon's handle is relatively long (i.e. built for adult hands and not baby hands). I have large hands and I wanted to be able to feed our baby as well. I did not feel that I could manage to securely grasp the handle of the other spoons. My concerns were confirmed when I had to use my nephew's Gerber spoon and it was uncomfortable to hold. I could only secure it with my first three fingers and my hands cramped while feeding the baby. Parents, if your baby is still too young to feed him/herself, I would highly, highly recommend this product. It will be a much more comfortable and enjoyable experience for you.

I have washed this product in my dishwasher for 4 months now and no problems and I still love it.

By the way, my wife's hands are small and she prefers this spoon over Gerber as well. It is just built for adults. I disagree with the other poster who felt the spoon was too large, or maybe my baby just loves to eat :)

And that is the word of D-Critique!

Although they are small, these spoons were too big for my 6-month-old's first feedings.
