Grade 4-6-The color of dinosaurs is only one of the topics covered in this overview. The information is current and accurate, if somewhat prosaic in its presentation. The illustrations, like the text, are adequate, but not tremendously exciting. Dingus covers the major facts about the sizes and shapes of these prehistoric beasts, what they ate, how they moved, and speculation about what killed them off. Readers learn about the hipbone structure that classifies them and characteristics of different species. Large chunks of text may turn off slow readers, and while the factual material is interesting, it pales in comparsion with Dougal Dixon's Dinosaurs (Boyds Mills, 1993). This isn't a volume kids will flock to, but it may be helpful for homework.
