5.0 out of 5 stars Only Book Of Its Kind
I'm thrilled that I finally have a book that tells how to digitally as well as manually color architectural and landscape drawings. It gives tips on using a scanner to get drawings or photographs into a layer of Photoshop and then how to manipulate the layers including opacity and filters. The technics for using markers and colored pencils to achieve realistic wood,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Reference Book
This book is a great reference book if you'd like to learn historical techniques used in rendering, such as diazo printing, as well as for basic guidance using Photoshop for rendering. However, I highly recommend using the 3rd edition along with a current Photoshop tutorial, or other rendering software for utilizing current digital techniques (all of the outdated...

I'm thrilled that I finally have a book that tells how to digitally as well as manually color architectural and landscape drawings. It gives tips on using a scanner to get drawings or photographs into a layer of Photoshop and then how to manipulate the layers including opacity and filters. The technics for using markers and colored pencils to achieve realistic wood, rocks, leaves, water, and chrome are outstanding. Includes great tips on paper colors, and what to include or leave out of a drawing to give it visual punch. The entire 414 pages are drawings and tips specifically dedicated to the needs of architects, landscape architects, and interior designers though any graphic person would find tremendous value in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great update to a wonderful book!, February 20, 2009

This review is from: Color Drawing: Design Drawing Skills and Techniques for Architects, Landscape Architects, and Interior Designers (Hardcover)
The 3rd edition of Doyle's fantastic Color Drawing is far more than just a cosmetic update! The tried-and-true marker and color techniques are still there, but with new twists and tricks. From quick study sketches to final renderings, he will help you be a better communicator. Best of all, the author offers up loads of great information on editing and enhancing traditional drawings with Photoshop!

Every design student AND practicing professional should keep a copy of this right next to his/her workspace...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, February 29, 2008
This review is from: Color Drawing: Design Drawing Skills and Techniques for Architects, Landscape Architects, and Interior Designers (Hardcover)
I am a beginning artist. I am especially interested in drawing. This book has fabulous examples of using marker, pastel and colored pencil for bringing a drawing to the next level. The ideas brought forth are exactly what I have been searching for. The book also has references to other books which I have acquired. I also use graphic programs at work. This book takes a hand drawing into Photoshop for the next level as well. Awesome book!

I am an Interior Design major and my professor recommended this book for the use of Prismacolor markers. It gives you great advice on how to render (coloring using the Prismacolor markers to show colors and shadows) and different techniques so you can get the effect you want.

This review is from: Color Drawing: Design Drawing Skills and Techniques for Architects, Landscape Architects, and Interior Designers (Hardcover)
This book is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn how to render. Detailed descriptions of method and proper media drastically shallows the learning curve in hand drawing.

A MUST HAVE FOR ART/ARCHITECTURE/INDUSTRIAL DESIGN STUDENTS

The pictures alone inspire creativity. The step by step instructions encourage experimentation for the more timid learners. Definitely a keeper reference book.

Excellent book. This is a required book for my interior design presentation class. It covers both hand and computer generated rendering. I am less than half way through the text at this point, and feel that it is providing the needed information to create very good color drawings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Color Drawing by Doyle, January 9, 2007

Inspirational book by industry legend. A great resource for certain design professionals. Doyle shows how he does it with supurb examples. He skims over some of the technical reprographic issues; unless you work next door to a copy shop or have tens of thousands of dollars of large format reprographic equipment at your disposal it would be difficult to work at this level. He also doesn't mention the extreme amount of talent needed to create work of the quality shown in the book. But for design professionals striving to create the best possible presentation drawings, this book is a must purchase!

This review is from: Color Drawing: Design Drawing Skills and Techniques for Architects, Landscape Architects, and Interior Designers (Hardcover)
Absolutely the best book I now own on not only rendering techniques, but drawing as well. The author is easy to follow, great colourful examples, step by step instruction, and not overwhelming for beginners, but not boring for advanced students as well. EXCELLENT sooo happy I had to buy this book, now I would recommend it to anyone, not just in interior design, but anyone who is looking to improve their drawing skills, especially when it comes to adding that final touch;colour!

This review is from: Color Drawing: Design Drawing Skills and Techniques for Architects, Landscape Architects, and Interior Designers (Hardcover)
I bought this book at an ASID national convention and promptly brought it back to my design school and recommended it as required text for a visual presentation class. It is well laid out, has easy to follow tips and tricks for both hand and computer rendering. I wish I had found it earlier!
