About the Author

Gary G. Field is a leading authority on color reproduction and print quality. His contributions to the printing industry in these fields have been widely recognized through such awards as the GATF Robert F. Reed Technology Medal, the Institute of PrintingÂ’s Gold Medal, and the TAGA Honors Award.

This is the seventh book that Professor Field has either authored or coauthored. His most recent work includes the second edition of Color and Its Reproduction and the new material in the updated reprint edition of John YuleÂ’s Principles of Color Reproduction. He has also authored more than eighty research papers and technical articles that have appeared in such publications as the TAGA Proceedings, Professional Printer, the Journal of Photographic Science, the IS&T/SID Color Imaging Conference Proceedings, and the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology.

FieldÂ’s formal printing education commenced at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and was followed by diploma-level studies in printing science and technology at the Nottingham Trent University. His qualifications also include the Insignia Award in Technology from the City and Guilds of London Institute, and MBA degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and Accredited Senior Imaging Scientist certification from the Royal Photographic Society.

Field, who was born in Melbourne, Australia, entered the printing industry in 1960 and worked in production, administration, and technical positions at a number of companies in Australia and England prior to being appointed supervisor of the Color and Photography Research Division of the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation. Subsequently, Professor Field ahs taught and conducted research in color quality related topics at Carnegie Mellon University and, currently, at the California Polytechnic State University. His educational achievements, for which he received the GATF Education Award of Excellence, include an acclaimed series of more than one hundred
